Just wondering how many people from NY drive their G's without a front plate.

 

I drive my prelude with out front plate.... get hassled for it here and there.

But on the G, i keep it on, especially since i park it on the street sometimes and NYC A-holes cant park without hitting the car in the back of them.

No plate on my coupe, on my wife's Jag or on our previous cars either. Been plateless for years. Have been stopped several times for various reasons, the latest being just last week. He was a young officer and I think he just wanted to look at the car, but he never noticed that the front plate was not there. My son was stopped for no plate a few years ago but just got a warning.

I am not going to put a front plate on my coupe. When I park in the city I will just place the plate in the window untill I leave the city.

Tybrey, is that legal or are you doing that hoping that a cop says "oh well, at least they put it in the windshield, so I won't give a ticket."

I think its illegal. But, I rarely park in the city. You can go to WWW.STRICTLYZ.COM and purchase a plate adapter that you can screw in the towing thread in the front bumper for the occasional drives in the city for 59.99. After you leave the city you can screw it out. It seems as though only city cops bother people with such things. They act as if they have nothing else better to do.

I removed my front plate the night I took delivery of my Sedan last March -- the dealer (Dorschel) would not delivery the car without the front plate installed.

To date, I haven't been stopped.

Here's my rationale:

1. I never drive without my Escort 8500 on, I don't drink-and-drive, and I don't have deeply tinted windows. To date, these are reasons enough to prevent an officer coming from the opposite direction do a U-turn to have a talk with me.

2. Typically, when someone gets pulled over, the officer pulls up from behind, parks behind them, and runs their plate number before he even gets out of the car.

3. When he does come up to the car, after he asks for license and registration, he looks at the registration and inspection stickers on the windshield. The license plate number is also printed on the registration sticker.

4. I keep the plate (and mounting screws) in the spare tire area. If an officer ever gives me a hassle, I can always try to get a break by reinstalling the plate on the spot.

From my experiences, I've rarely if not ever gotten a ticket from being pulled over for no front plate. Its only when I park my G in or around the city (those nasty NYPD cops) that I ever get a ticket. When its on public streets. I've NEVER gotten a ticket in Nass or Suff county, only in the NYC area.

So this is what I did, I pulled out that little plastic cover in the front bumper that hides the tow mount, and behind it I glued a strong earth magnet I picked up at a local hardware store for like $2. Then I took another magnet and glued it to the back of the plate. When I park my car, I just slap it on. No more tickets!

In Jersey the law states "both tags must be displayed", so I had them both mounted on the rear of my Camaro, one on top of the other. Was stopped a few times and hassled but never ticketed once I pointed it out.
The a$$holes at the dealer drilled my G before I could stop them, I was thinking about making them order me a new bumper, but I'm over it because I dread giving the dealer the car over-night.

WNYG35 - I got pulled over in Roch. for no front plate. Told him I had the plate in the trunk, made me show him, then told me to put it on. I did, no ticket.

The A-HOLES that give tickets in NY are the meter maids. Not your regular Cops!

dholly - I assume you already had the holes drilled in your front bumper. My plate is in the trunk too but I would need an battery powered drill to honor that request on the road.

Columbus, Ohio here. About 3 months driving post temp tag and no problems yet. I have the front plate and bracket in the trunk. I have thought about the bracket that mounts in the tow adapter, but I think I will just take my chances with it clean.
