Remote starter
Re: Remote starter
Not really AFAIK. I just got the Clifford Matrix 3.5X installed and it works great. The factory alarm is still functional but don't use it since it doesn't really play well with the new system. Just make sure that whoever installs it is competent and you trust them.
Re: Remote starter
My remote start doesn't seem to work from a long distance. Example a girl from my work has a remote start in a Ford Escape. She can start the truck from the 7th floor of our office building. I cannot. I can start my car from my house on the second floor but not much further. I have installed a new battery in the remote not much of a difference.

Re: Remote starter
Hold up the remote to your chin (pointing at your chin), and you will get a better range. This might sound crazy, but it does work.
Getting back to this topic, I heard remote starters are not recommended for this car. I can't remember why, but this is what I was told.

Re: Remote starter
MTs are not good ideas for remote starters b/c you have to leave the car in neutral in order to use it. First off it's illegal and no shop will do it for you and if they do they claim absolutely no responsibility. If you leave an MT car in gear with a remote starter when you start the car it'll lurch forward that can mean damage to your car, other people's cars, or some schlub walking past your car. You can do it. You just need to bypass the starter further down the line but it's not recommended.
Re: Remote starter
Heard that its no good since the car has a chip in the key to start it. So they have to take the chip from one of the keys and install it in the ignition its not the worst thing to do but your messing with the cars system.

Re: Remote starter
That is true. The guy who installed my system installed a module. The key is connected to the module and the car accesses it ONLY when starting the car remotely. Once the car is started the key is no longer active and the car can only be driven WITH the key in. Pressing the brake without the key will kill the car's engine. You have to put a real key (with chip) in and press the brake in order to drive the car normally. The key is buried in a box deep within the car. IF a thief could find it then he's more than welcome to my car. As long as you can find a guy who will do the install right (like mine) then you'll be fine. My 0.02 :-)
