Shooting ranges in Boston Area?
Shooting ranges in Boston Area?
Does anyone know of any good shooting ranges in the area? Preferrably outdoor, but indoor without outrageous fees would be nice too. I only make it back to PA every 2 months or so and I don't want to get rusty, any thoughts?

My home town, population 40,000, has 3 good ones. Friggin Mass, I've been here for 7 years and I find something new to hate about it all the time. I do want to go to S&W sometime though. I have a 4506 that I sheared the extracter off of-- S&W repairs their guns for free, including all shipping, for life! They offer great smithing services there too, and I imagine they must have a great range. Really long drive though...
There's an outdoor shooting range in Billerica, MA. I used to hear the guns and rifles going off all the time when I did business out there. Sorry, I don't know the name of the place.

Funny story, my dad was at the Harrisburg farm show recently and told me there was a vendor from Mass "selling" guns for a sweet price but he couldn't sell them to anyone that didn't live in Mass. Sounded kind of shady to me.
Whats your gun collection look like?
I've got:
Side-by-Side 20 gauge for show
Pump 20 gauge Clay Bird Shotgun
30-06 Hunting Rifle
.22 Target Rifle
I've also put in a request for My dad's .44 Magnum when he's no longer able to shoot it (i.e. DEAD)
I can't think of anymore that "belong" to me, but I know I have more coming to me in my dad's will.
PS I herd something like PA has the largest gun population per capita. Can anyone confirm?
Mass will no longer enjoy my employ when I decide to become full-fledged member of the gun-toting population.
I would rather move then tell the "all trusting" government I have a gun in my possession.

Right now my collection is pretty small since friends have some nice guns I can use. Personally I have:
Smith & Wesson 4506- 5" barrel combat frame
MAC 11- pos that broke the first time I took it out, bought a lot of replacement parts but still have failure to load issues (makes a sweet paper weight though)
AK47 HBAR- Heavy extended barrel, bipod. Brand new, by far my favorite.
I need a revolver to round it out.
My dad has the Sig P230- .380 auto, very sweet piece, a tiny .22 auto he had in college, and a Glock 17.
Other notables of various friends:
S&W .357 Magnum 2.5"
2 regular AKs
Winchester .270 Magnum
Marlin .22 plinker rifle
Glock 17
S&W Sigma .40
Mausberg 28" 12 gauge for the skeet
Mausberg 18" 12 gauge for the house
I've never been to the Harrisburg show but I hear it's HUGE. I go to the Pennsdale one every year though, some good stuff and close to home. Billerica and Woburn are within range (haha) I'll have to check them out.
My one buddys was given a Mousburg 18" 12 gauge. He did some computer work for a guy and the payment was the gun. Sweet freeking deal. It doesn't even have a stock to it. That gun will make a burgler **** his pants at the first sight of it.
I'm surprised they even allow the AKs in Mass. Another buddy of mine has one of those AR17 (I think thats what it's called), just a small caliber semi-auto. It's like a BB gun compared to my 30-06. Was fun to shoot off a clip though. Then I handed him my 30-06 and he wasn't expecting it.
The 30-06 is by far my favorite gun. I had it sighted in for hunting at 150 yards. But the last time I went out hunting the dumb bastard deer snuck up on me at like 25 feet away. I shot way over the freeking thing and put one nice hold in the tree behind it. In retrospect I should have used the post sight built in the gun. I want to take it to the 300 yard range near my dads house and see if it's accurate to that range. Probably is but past that point I wouldn't be able to see the target in the scope and I think thats the longest range in the area.
My dads .44 has a pretty long barrel on it for a revolver. He put a lazer scope on it also (the sick bastard). He got sick of carrying around a rifle for whitetail season.
My dad is just a gun/hunting freek. He teaches Hunter Safety for Carbon County. Runs the indoor gun range for the town (BB, Air Rifle, .22 target rifle, .22 target handgun, & Womens Night). And started going to Camp Perry on a regular basis. Technically he has probably 50 .22 target rifles in is possession, but I doubt he'll ever remove them from the indoor range except for maintance every now and then.
On a side note, one of his friends had a 16 gauge semi-auto shotgun. Freeking sweet. I took it clay bird shooting and my sholder was mad red at the end of the day.

You guys have some nice toys! I dont have any long guns (assembled, working on an AR project). Just a Sig 229, Sig 239, Glock 27 (all .40s) and a Ruger MKIII Hunter .22.
I usualy head down south to shoot in Attleboro, American Firearms School. Indoor, you can shoot whatever you'd like. I'm still looking for a nice place to shoot outside, maybe some pits or something, so I can shoot on the move.
