When do I need winter tires???

So I moved from LA to Boston. I"m going to bring my 07 G sedan sport out, but I don't plan to drive it when it is snowing. My car currently has summer tires, so my question is, if I do not get winter tires, how long would i expect NOT to be able to drive my car? I heard the tires aren't really good if the weather dips below 40. Do you guys think it's worth it to get winter tires, or suck it up and use public transportation.,

The summer tires suck in snow. they are ok in just cold weather though. If your arnt going to drive the car all that much you might be comfortable braving it but if it were me i would buy a set just incase you change your mind.

If you have a place to store your summer tires then get at least all-season tires. Winter in the NE can render your car undrivable from Nov-Mar, which is a pretty long time. At least you're doing the right thing and thinking twice before going out and driving in sub 40 degree weather in your summer tires, unlike a lot of other stupid people I know.

You cannot drive on summer tires in the snow. Seriously, don't even attempt it. You are likely to get stuck on flat ground with 1" of snow.

Get snow tires at some point during December. The snow really doesn't hit until January (you might get some during December though). Mine come off end of March.

It might be cheaper to buy a entire set of wheels and tires, you can get some for as low as 400$. I was going to do that, but then I found a good beater car for 400$ and decided to go with that.
