Re: try to steal the G

i live in the suburbs i guess. not really rural, but there are spots nearby that qualify.

i live on a busier street in town.

maybe they took my lead because i never lock my car doors (G is in garage, daily driver in driveway). but my kids have no comprehension of being careful. when they leave for school (i leave before them), they don't lock front door. bikes have been left out overnight, etc...

i guess they have time to learn, and take my word, instead of learning from experience.

04 6mtC, DG - possibly most babied G on the board.

Re: try to steal the G

The best part.. A year ago the car that my G replaced was stollen out of the same lot. I had a Integra GS-R with a lot of extras. The car was stolen on a tuesday, I was picking up a daily driver on Friday of the week so I did not have to worry about the GS-R. Some bad luck! The brighter side is I pretty much made money on the GS-R. Everything wors out, I decided to buy a 4dr G and when I went to finalize the deal the dealer received an early delivery of the coups. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to buy it. It was crazy sinbce I had one of the first ffew sold on the east coast. I've had it since Oct or 2002. Only down side is there was no 6speed at the time.

In 4 years there were only 3 reported thefts in my office lot. 2 of them were me!

My office is in Morristown... never thought I would have to worry there. I worked in Piscataway for 8 years which has a high reported auto theft rate and never so much as a scratch. Go figure.

As far as the tire thing... I heard the same thing, that I should replace both tires together. I have a friend that owns a large performance shop in NY. HE called Infinity to get me a replacement. His whole sale price just for the rim $900 + shipping which will put me a little over $1000 just for the rim. They are nuts. I am going with aftermarket wheels and then I will just keep checking with junk yards for recked G's. See if I can pick up a rim at a later time to use for snow tires.

Re: try to steal the G

There are a few places where you could get a refurbished rim..
problem is they won't guarantee the paint to match....
when I hit a curb early on with my car, I researched a few spots that deal in OEM wheel repair/replacements. The price is around 325-375 each.

You may also want to check out the parts/accessories forum here and see whats available...

I freaked out when the dealership told me its $900 for a replacement 18" rim!

Let me know if you need any info. I'm sure I could still dig up the sites for you...LOL ( i'm hoping that means lots of luck!)2old4this

Re: try to steal the G

As much as I love my G, I have to wonder about car alarms....

Nobody pays attention to them anyway, and if you've ever watched "Repo Men" on TLC, you'll know that in less than 30 secs, your car can be out of the parking lot and gone before you even know it, alarm or not. As has been seen by other posters, people don't care, even if they are looking right at someone violating your car. And, unless you are armed, confronting someone trying to steal your car is not a good idea. Even then it's a risky proposition.

They just use those hook things, lift the rear tires and drive off. Even with the alarm going, who'se going to stop them? Would you approach someone trying to steal a stranger's car?

IMHO, just drive the car and be prudent and let the insurance company take care of it if it gets stolen. It sucks to be violated like that, but your car is not worth your life.
Edited by mbryda on 03/07/04 11:07 AM.
