Walk over to Faneuil Hall and check out the Tourists. I haven't been in Boston since I graduated in 1997 so I imagine things have changed a bit.

The Harp and The Greatest Bar are both great. Huge TV screens at The Greatest Bar - 3 floors, dancing on the 3rd floor, more of a bar atmosphere on the other two.
The Harp is really good, and draws a diverse crowd of all ages.

You could also try Boston Beer Works - they have good food, and pool tables in the upstairs area.

Hurricane O'Rielly's, right next door to Boston Beer Works, is a lounge type of bar but also has a dance floor.

Boston Beer Works and Hurricane's are on Canal St.
The Harp is directly across the street from the Garden, and the Greatest Bar is half a block down one of the streets running perpendicular to the Garden.

Have fun.

Been there, done that. I do it to soak up the booze plus I'm hungry and it's the first thing I see.
