Just wanted to let everyone know that the NYPD is on a tear looking for cars with tint on Staten Island. It appears to be yet another way for the city to generate revenue.

The police officers are now carrying a small hand-held unit that measures the amount of light transmission that your tint allows. They have you roll your window down a foot or so and just slide it over the window. If it is less than 30% you get a juicy ticket.

I'm on the north shore and have seen 5 cars pulled over on Monday and Teusday alone (during rush hour traffic).

lol indeed they are - a friend of mine had 20% all around on his maxima and got pulled over on the belt parkway at or around the flatbush ave exit going east bound. They too used the little hand held device. Kinda sucks - there was a big thing on the news about NYS and tinting regulations and that they may crack down more. But, a lot of people were complaining because they said they do not tint their windows to hide from cops, but windows are tinted to keep the interior personal and so that theives can not see in and see what you have in your car. I guess that is a pretty good and fair defense. We shall see i guess. we should take each day in stride and just roll down the windows when we see good ole PD i guess

 

Was planning to get my CB coupe tinted when it comes in next month... guess i'm going to have to make sure it's not so dark

what's the legal level in NYC anyways?

seems like the NYPD has been on a rampage lately with pulling people over... i was home on Staten Island last weekend and in those two days i saw at least 7-8 cars pulled over just around my area

should be interesting when my G comes in.... i feel like the caribbean blue will attract ALOT of unwanted attention from the NYPD

that is my dilemma i really wanted to get Laser Red but i am worried about cops being attracted to it and they always say "red looks like its going faster" so that may affect my choice i really dont know wat to do

 

To one of the earlier posts, they are doing their job. My post was just a heads up for those G Owners that have tint darker than 30% (i.e. 25/15/5).

Oddly enough I was pulled over last night on the way home from work and the officers were very cool about it and checked my tint and let me go without a ticket. I have 35% all around.

so what's a good light tint %?

 

I went with 25%. It's not as dark as I would have liked to match the black of the car. But it does allow for great visibility at night and no tickets to date.
