Peter the springs are at Tony's. Had a chance to drop them off today on my way home from school.

I was running an errand to stop by a lab and check out some results during lunch yesterday.. I haven't driven the subie hard in awhile due to the tune being iffy. I finally got everything back to normal, and decided to goose it in 2nd gear... but of course if I **** out 2nd gear I hit 60 and I wasn't trying to speed in this 45 mph zone. I shifted early... roughly 3500 RPM.. which is when I hit peak boost and peak torque... -_____- dumb.
KABOOM! Shredded 3rd gear. Thousands of metal gear shards and shavings are now flying around my gear box and it sounded like death. Actually, it sounded more like someone poured marbles in there.
Replacing it with another OEM 5-speed is not an option, because I will just break it again. My options are:
1. Built 5 speed with PPG gears and forks, exedy stg 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel. 1-4 would be straight cut, and 5th would remain helical for quiet highway drives. This would be about $5k without labor
2. 6 speed swap from an STi. Not hard to find, but it requires a ton of components (usually can be found as a package deal): The transmission itself, shift lever & ****, driveshaft, rear diff and R180 gears with LSD, axles, DCCD controller and switches, OEM clutch and flywheel for 6speed. This transmission is known to be beyond bulletproof and the OEM clutch can handle 400 wtq without any problems. This would run me about $4k (used) without labor.
Right now the car is sitting at a shop down by my place (I know the owner)... it's got every gear but 3rd, but of course with all the metal floating around in there it's not safe to drive. I am having a car transportation company transport it back to my hometown in Indiana where it will sit in my parents driveway until I can get ahold of everything I need to do the swap in my garage. The problem is.... I have absolutely no means of paying for this.. so who knows how long the car will sit (while I make payments on it)... Flying home friday evening to pick up the extra car and drive back sunday.
Yeppppppppppppppppp efffff emmmmmm elllllll

Welcome Kenny! I am sure you have taken some time to scope out our thread. Unfortunately, the winter season is upon us and things will slow down a tad for us, we do try to meet up for lunch or dinners together. Post some pics of the G when you get a chance, stay active on the thread and if you happen to have any questions, by all means dont be shy..lolOriginally Posted by Kenny_Cox
