Snow tires

Guys, I just bought a 2007 DG one with 23k miles. I moved up here for a little bit over a year from the south and i went through last winter here (nasty :P). Everybody told me I need some winter tires if I'm going to survive it. So my option are:

1) buy some new winter tires and get them mounted on my current 19"
2) buy some wheel (17" cheapest?) with some winter tires?..

I like 2nd option better and it should work with no issue right? I don't mind having a set of extra tires which I can change.

What do you guys think? Also what's a good set of winter tires?

Thanks

Do you have Brembo's? I don't know if 17's will clear Brembo brakes.

I have 18 summers and 17 winters. Love the setup.

If its an 07 sedan you don't have brembo's unless the previous owner put then on. I don't believe the 07 coupe had them either though? maybe someone else can chim in for that part as i'm not positive.

get some hankook w300,

amazing snow tire, made my rwd G better in the snow then my front wheel drive civic with all seasons,

I like this tire because it has good dry performance, so you can still push it when the road is dry.
the snow performance is top shelf as well

id go with extra rims if u can.

its easer, if you can deal with not having the TPMS

I've had great luck with Dunlop winter sport M3's. Strong sidewall, they handle just as good as summer tires. Never had a single problem with them. RWD here...

Definitely go with a different setup for each season, summer versus winter. It's the safest way to go, not to mention the most fun -- cause it means you can buy kickass tires for the good weather.

I have the 19" Rays on my Coupe for the summer, and I have a set of 18" 'old school' 350Z wheels for the winter. For now. I might pick up a set of 18" OEM G35 wheels instead, I can't make up my mind.

Anyway, on my last car (lil' turbocharged sport sedan), I ran Pirelli Winter SnowSport and Hankook Winter iPike. I can't say much about the iPikes, unfortunately -- I had an accident in that car which totaled it only a month into wintertime, when the iPike tires were still brand new. But the Pirelli tires were GREAT. I ran them for four winters, and my car was a tank in the snow -- I did better than a lot of trucks and SUVs with those tires on there. However, I ran the 210 .. and I don't know if that kind is made anymore. I think Pirelli is doing 240 now, and I dunno how those are.

As far as what I plan to run on my G, I'm probably going to go with the same tire GMass just said -- the Dunlop Winter Sport M3. They aren't TOO costly and got very good reviews.

You should be fine...just steer away from steep inclines...

Speaking of winter setups...it's early, but anyone need a set of 17s w/ Dunlop M3s in the rear (used 2 season sparingly) and Toyo winters in the front (practically brand new since I had to replace them at the end of last season because one of mine fronts got punctured. You will actually receive the front Dunlop M3 that didn't get messed up. Let me know if you are interested.

Glad to hear the good feedback about the winter sports. They threw them in when I picked up my G a few months ago and of course I havent had a single winter with them. Makes me feel a bit better with our winters here.
