Anyone get Oil Consumption Test at Herb Chambers?

Like the title says, I'm wondering if anyone has gotten OC test from this dealership. I'm trying to purchase an 06 Coupe 6MT from a private party, and am wondering how long it would take to perform and how much they would charge for this test. Lastly, since the original warranty transfers to the new owner, if there is an oil consumption issue, could I request for a new engine?

I guess since I'm the most recent recipient of a new motor due to OC issues I'll answer your thread first LOL

taking the car to a dealership for OC tests is free. They'll check your oil level, mark the dipstick and tell you to go drive 1,000 miles and come back. They'll check the level again and tell you to do another 1,000 miles and come back. They'll check it the second time and determine at that point if it falls into the category of an oil consumption motor.

If it does fall into that category they'll ask you for all the receipts for all the oil changes performed on the car. If you had your oil changes done at a dealership then you have nothing to worry about (they have them all in the computer). If you didn't have them done at a dealership and don't have the receipts you can hang it up. They're not going to give you a new motor.

If the motor is found to be an OC motor and you have all your oil change receipts or they're all in the system and you have the warranty on the motor/car then you're home free. They'll put you in a loaner sedan and send you on your way. About a week or 2 later they'll tell you its done and come pick it up. AT NO COST TO YOU

Once you get the car back you have to do the break-in period which entails not revving past 4,000rpms. This must be adhered to for the first 1,200-1,500 miles of driving.

Hope this answers your questions

Mike

Three is NOTHING in the TSB about oil changes, or lack there of, could cause consumption issues or that it's part of the process to determine if the vehicle fits the criteria for engine replacement.. I do all my own oil changes, and couldn't produce EVERY receipt. They'd have one hell of a battle ahead of them if they sit some geek down with my partial pile of receipts and a calculator and tell me they think I went too long without an oil change.

But I'm at 90k... so it doesn't apply. Just feel like hating on Herb Chambers.

The seller showed me the receipt of this 30k miles and 35k mile services (The car currently has about 38k on it) performed at the HC dealer, but told me that he gets his oil changed at a local garage right down the street from his house. Do you think that'll be enough?

Another issue is that I am still a student, and will be leaving for school in mid-late August. I don't think I'll put in a thousand miles before then, and my school is about 700 miles away. And I am not sure whether I'll drive a thousand miles in Cleveland before I make the trip back home again. Would you happen to know if I can get the check-ups at different locations or would I have to stick with one dealership? If I do I guess I have to wait 'til graduation in December and get it done then. Thanks for the information.

the oil changes being done at a garage other than the dealership without receipts as proof is going to be a problem for you.

As for being able to go to other dealerships or multiple dealerships for the OC test results I believe you can go to any one that is close or convenient to you at the time. The results of the tests get put in the system on file so any other dealership can see the results and act appropriately in regards to covering the warranty or not

I had only one OC test run at HC and the rest as well as the engine replacement were done at Infiniti of Norwood. HC Infiniti messed up my sideskirts BAD stating they had difficulty putting my car on the lift due to being lowered.

Since then I've strictly gone to Norwood for all my dealership needs. They have lift capable of putting my car in the air without sustaining damage to my side skirts or anything and the service I receive there is top notch all the way

Alright. Thanks again for the info. I have to go there for diagnostic inspection anyway before I complete the deal, so I'll ask them whether they are willing to replace the engine if OC problem is found. Although I'm obviously hoping that they will honor the TSB, if not, I guess I'll have to walk away from what is otherwise a very desirable vehicle.
