NYCG35,

Looks like you can remove the Z-tube from next to my name... got a little mod antsy and did it today myself... it was no sweat...

that look like it's on there correctly? my car ran fine on the way home so i guess it works. i agree with others comments that it does add a nice little growl from the engine compartment, although i have not pushed it into the upper RPMs b/c i'm still in the break in period

Re: ??AUG 14 DIY HELP NEED? & DIY TECH'S

Edit to my above post:

Scratch the Z-tube AND the Popcharger off next to my name... i got bored last night and today and decided to take apart my intake all by myself... got the tube and the PC installed no problem

I would recommend to anyone doing a PC install at the meet... see if you can at least get that damn weatherstripping installed on the heat shield before saturday b/c that part is very frustrating and time consuming

Since I am a newbie DIYer myself, I can help out anybody else that needs to do a Z/Pop or clearance lights.

i think my intake is VERY close to my AC line... too close for me to feel comfortable about it, so i need to address that issue tomorrow

hmm not good---martin burnt a hole through his AC line from his pop charger/z tube (whichever it is)-- so you might want to check that out

SI_G35Coupe,

Give the tube a quarter of a turn (forgot which direction). That should re-align your tube and should give you about half an inch of space. If you can't figure it out, let me know and I'll help you with the twist on Saturday.

WATCH THAT A/C LINE !!!!

DO NOT LINE UP THE ARROWS ON THE Z TUBE.....TWIST MAF HOUSING TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE CAR MAYBE 1/2 INCH.....

I'LL POST THE PIC...OK.....IF U JACK UP THAT A/C LINE...$850...out of warranty

Re: ??AUG 14 DIY HELP NEED? & DIY TECH'S

Speed,
When you say give it 1/4 turn, do you mean rotate the entire MAF assembly separate from the popcharger cone... i guess what i mean is should i undo the 4 bolts that connect the cone and the MAF unit and rotate the MAF 1/4 turn so the bolts line up again but in a different spot? do you follow what i mean? which way should the wires from the MAF be coming out of it... right now it's coming out to the right just like it was stock

NYCG35,
i'm going to the store tomorrow to buy the insulation for the A/C line, even if i can get enough clearance to make me satisfied... better safe than without cold air in august. any recommendations on size & type of insulation to buy?

Assuming i insulate the line and gain more clearance by moving around the MAF a little i should be ok. but, i will still have you guys take a peek at it to make sure everything is right.

also one other question... with my stock air box, the wiring harness for the MAF was zip-tied to the side/bottom of the stock airbox.... is this normal b/c none of the DIY's mentioned it?

Re: ??AUG 14 DIY HELP NEED? & DIY TECH'S

Should i do some kind of ECU reset too? when i first started the car it took a little more cranking than i would have liked to make the VQ turn over... is this normal? it hasn't happened again so it might just have been a one time thing

also it might be my imagination but i feel like the idle is a little lower... to me it looks like 1/2 way between 0 and 1000 which i'm assuming is about 500rpm... i thought idle was supposed to be around 700-800. can anyone comment?

sorry for turning the DIY thread into my popcharger thread i will hold any other questions till saturday.

SI_G35Coupe,

Exactly like NYCG35 said. Give it a slight turn and you'll see how you get better clearance.
As far as what part to rotate: you rotate the whole thing while everything is connected EXCEPT the bracket that's attached to the cone (the one that's holding it against the body of the car). That bracket if I'm not mistaken, will need to be reattached to the next bolt on the cone as a result of that twist.

As far as insulation goes... well this is my personal opinion but I think that if a piece of hard plastic (tube) can punch a hole in a metal pipe (A/C line), I don't see any reason why it won't punch a hole in piece of soft plastic insulator. - but that's just my opinion. You have nothing to lose by putting it.

Re: ??AUG 14 DIY HELP NEED? & DIY TECH'S

SI: The idle and all that stuff is fine , the turnover was a one time thing....the mod aint that serious to mess with anything....(in a bad way that is)....you may just see some darker smoke because of more air maybe the first time you run it at high RPM,...but after that its all sound....no "REAL LIFE" noticable HP gains....(those that say they "feel it", got mental HP gains...and that aint my opinion, thats FACT!)

but if you even have 1/8" of clearance you are good....the thing doesnt move and when you rev the VQ it pulls away from the A/C line...so you are str8.....but we'll look at it Sat.
