I dont even see how cops would even bother you for 35% all around damn must they be strict. Here in ny where i live cops dont even bother you for anything above 20%.

To the OP i think 20% is perfect but in your case i would go 35% all around.

Some officers feel very passionately about tint limits.

cant wait till they pass the revised tint law here!!!!! Gov. Quinn seems to support it, just wants a little revision since SUVs come with factory tint. Tinting places have already started raising their prices. Current law is totally rediculous you can have the rears litterly painted solid black but nothing in front.

At least you can have 50% up front. I'd be thrilled with that, but I can't have ANY tint up front below the top 4 inches.

^Wth does that even look like? And ours isnt much better. We have have ANYTHING below 50% on our rear windows. So 50% all around is our limit.

And dont complain. You dont have to have a front plate!!

i talked to my guy he has a tint shop. Best in the city w/o a doubt
Midco Tinting in Burbank IL.
and He was telling me its about to get passed by like October for 35%. the 50% was going on for years already. But now they're passing it for 35% you can even ask cops they have this little machine (well most of them should) that shines a light thru the window and they tell you its legal or not. I saw the machine its pretty cool. In a few cities in the chicago burbs they already had a meeting about it and thats what they're checking for. Another buddy of mine is a cop so

Negative. in MA it's 35% on all windows...even the back. And that's NET, not film. If you slap 35% film on bare glass, it will be even darker.

My G35's glass measured 78% VLT on my tint meter BEFORE getting my windows tinted. I put 35% FILM on and when i retested with the meter, it was 27% VLT. That would make me illegal in the state of MA.

To the OP, The way you can figure out what tint to run can be done with simple math.

Take the tint you want to be at (50% = .50) and divide it by the reading of the G35's bare windows (78% = .78) and you get (.50/.78 = .64) meaning you need to put 64% film on the glass to have them read 50%.

A lot of state laws allow 35% NET Max, so to achieve this you would need to put 45% tint on your windows. A lot of guys miss out on this and put 35% FILM on and think they are legal...when they are not

Then it must not have been 35% in reality even though the box said so. It must have been a little lighter so that on the glass it would measure ~35%

Nope. I asked him. It is 35%. Every car has different amounts of VLT in the glass. So its not like they make tints specific to each car.

And besides, why would the shop even bother getting tint that will make it exactly 35% anyways? our limit is 50% on every window.

My friends mom got a ticket for 41% so yea, there is no leniency in our state, esp with this officer.
