Driving with different tailights in NYC? Illegal?

I have an 03' G35 with grid tailights. I just replaced my right tailight to angel eyes, but the left is still grid. Is it illegal to drive in NYC with 2 different tailights? I am currently awaiting the left taillight in the mail and don't know when it will come...

I don't know for sure, but my guess is different...
I'm willing to bet that the two taillights have to match, but it's just a guess

not sure about NY but in CALI, it only says the tail lights need to be red. turn signals need to be amber/red and reverse lights white.

i honestly doubt cops will notice it as long as it operates correctly.

Yea I agree you should probably be ok, may get pulled over for having different lights on each side but most likely wont have a problem.

If anything just tell them someone broke your tail light and you had to borrow a friends tail light and you are waiting for the other one to come in.

thanks for the help, I finally got the other tail light a couple of weeks ago... luckily I didn't get stopped but I got a few awkward stares from other drivers. oh well, I thought it was kind of cool because it looked like my taillights were winking.
