my boy at SPEEDTEK in L.I. just finished an install on a vortec supercharger kit in a g coupe.. the kit is really nice and installs nice and clean.. right now the car is running 8 psi of boost and it feels nice.. the power definetly pastes you back in your seat.. the kit has and intercooler and a blow-off valve and a piggy back controller.. its not that expensive compared to the turbo kits out there.. just posting incase anyone wanted to know how the kit look and feel..

you can put a blow off valve on a supercharger..i thought it was only for turbos

 

Nope both let off boost gases or pressure. Both setups also have "wastegates" which are technically BOV's just not as loud and then people put in a BOV instead if they want to cut off and release as much pressure as possible and of course for the sound.

blow-off valves release the pressurized air between a FI unit and the throttle body. lets say you are running WOT, and you have 7 psi running thru the intake piping, you let off the gas and the throttle body closes off (not completely though) and the FI unit is still sending 7 psi thru the system, the pressure builds and the unit stresses because that pressure has nowhere to go except back to the compressor wheel, damaging the bearings. you can put a blow-off valve on a centrifigul-type supercharger since there is pressurized air between the S/C unit and the throttle body. roots/lysholm screw types sit right on top of the intake plenum so there is no backpressure to damage the unit. wastegates are used to moderate boost pressure by letting exhaust gases escape thru it when a desired boost pressure is reached. whoa damn, i tracked off topic, sorry, lol! in any event, keep on track of this guy, become his buddy if you have to, i wanna see this car go and possibly take a ride in it. there are many more people who have had success in supercharging their G's with careful tuning than those who have run into issues, but it is still a scary gamble to take when modding your only car which still has a WARRANTY, hehe.

Well when i went to get work done to my car i asked the guy Dan Z who fired up his car why his BOV wasnt loud, and he said he didnt have a BOV, he was using wastegates instead which do the same in releasing pressure but just arent loud, dunno>!>! Sorry for the wrong info though, thats what i was told.

wastegates are on turbocharged cars.
They are either internal (build into the turbo) or external (attached to the manifold).
A spring will control when the wastegate opens, when it opens it releases exhaust gas that will bypass going through the exhaust wheel so the turbo does not boost any higher.
When it opens it sounds so badass

wastegates control boost pressure on the exhaust side,,, blow off valves/pop off valves.. release excess boost pressure on the intake side as to prevent damage to the turbo's compressor wheel and bearings.. works the same way in a supercharged application.. no wastegates on superchargers because the engine drives a supercharger with a set pulley.. the pulley determines boost.

i've just seen it about a couple of months now.. i've seen the others a lil while now.. i wouldn't doubt that its been out for awhile. after all the z and g have been out there for awhile.. i know alot of guys with the Greddy TT kits, but its the first supercharger install i've seen out here in N.Y.C.

really, wow, I'd think there'd be more...
I know here in maryland, the 4 people I know who have G's, 3 (including me) have the Vortech, and one has the Greddy TT.
There has to be someone in NY who has it. I hear there are tons of G's in NY and I'm sure the people who live there have the money to spend on FI

there probably are guys out here that have it.. i've haven't seen any yet.. how do you like the supercharger so far? i really would like to do that setup to my coupe, but i would like feedback from owners that have a supercharger on their cars..
