Forced Navigation

I'm in NJ. Haven't been here long and so the Navigation system is very helpful.

When it doesn't drive me crazy.

For some reason it has a preference for streets while I prefer highways.

The street route may be shorter but with all the lights and turns and traffic, it takes much longer

For example. I'm in Tenack last night and program a Passaic destination. I would like to take 4 or 46 or 80 (to 21) but the system constantly shows a route with many street turns. When I disregard and get on 80, it wants me to get off at almost every exit.

This happens all the time in almost all circumstances.

I have tried both quick route and shortest route, with similar results.

The Lexus Nav system has a highway choice.

Is there something I'm missing in the programming?

Re: Forced Navigation

If your driving and the nav is telling you to take a side street and you wanna take the highway, just jump on the highway and let the nav auto re-route it for you. Thats what I do and it seems to work fine. Although having the Highway option from the beginning would be nicer.

Re: Forced Navigation

Search around in settings menu for average highway speed and average street speed. The Nav determines the route that will take the shortest time by dividing the distance of the road by the average speed. If you set the highway speed higher and normal street speed lower, it will favor highways more heavily when choosing a route.
