i just picked up and extra upper plenum, anyone know of a metal polishing service in the area?

 

Call MRC motorsports www.racemrc.com. They always have polished plenums and will give you credit for a core replacement.

 

anyone else? there's gotta be a polishing service that's less than $260

 

Try SML Metals 631-491-4313. I know they do wheels, but might do polishing as well.

Where's SML located??? I need to get the lips on my wheels polish and clear coated...

 

I was referred to SML by member dubs on the forum. I called up kevin today and was impressed with both their pricing and his immediate knowledge of my rims and specs. I'm taking my wheels there this friday. Although I haven't actually used them yet, he was the most welcoming and reasonable out of the 3 other vendors I was considering. They are located in West Babylon, I believe exit 36N off the Southern State.

You can always do it yourself. I used a $30 kit (Compund/polishing wheels) bought from Home Depot to make my projector bezles and they came out pretty good.

 

off topic but i bought a polishing tool/buffer from home depot threw some mothers on my wheels and they came out like chrome.. i suggest getting one if you got dpe's or whatever.. took like 10 minutes to do all 4 .. bling bling

 

not one to be shy from a DIY, but I was under the impression that this is a little more complex than polishing wheels.

 

Well it depends how bad your wheels are. Like I did the same thing with the polishing wheel and mothers and meguliars which is better by the way and it came out really good. However my lips are so bad that you can still see a ton of imperfections..and any rim shop I've taken them to say they need to be taken to a metal shop. So I guess overall it depends on how bad they are.

Yes the process for doing the plenum will be more involved since you are starting with a rough, unpolished surface to start with. High speed polishing is the only way to go! The stock plenum as a textured finish. The process will be to sand the entire plenum down until you get a smoother, flatter surface. Obviously this needs to be done in stages and is a major PITA. Starting out with a lower grit and work your way up to an acceptable level where the high speed polishing would take over. I would figure it to be somewhere around after a sanding with 1500-2000 grit.

It's alot of work and the proper tools will make the job go much faster!

 

Damn u, lol. I am dropping off my Volks for the Z to get the lip polished and powdercoated as well. I guess I will have to wait a few more days until your are finished.
