I saw a news article on this last week. It seems a little silly to me, only because I'm old and don't feel any need to imitate any Fast and Furious movies just because I saw it on the big screen. I did find one spot of that article funny though.

"Before the operation begins Friday, a briefing will be held to educate participating officers on how to spot the cars equipped with after-market parts that allow for faster acceleration and higher top speeds.

Certain modifications include alteration to the exhaust, low-profile tires, a lowered vehicle; and under the hood the car may have had its intake replaced or an upgraded or high-performance computer chip, according to Birch."

How does lowering a vehicle and low-profile tires make a car accelerate faster and give me a higher top speed??? They might just as well have made the more accurate statement, "...aftermarket parts that make the car look and sound ridiculous. Modifications include: huge vinyl graphics on the sides, fart-can mufflers, double-decker aluminum wings, and APC stickers."

Hey, anyone want to meet up this Friday night at In-N-Out in Millbrae so we can discuss "where we are going to do sideshow and where we've been and what we've been doing"

WTF?!

So they are going to pull over any fixed up car they see? It is not illegal to have an air filter or to lower your car. I can uderstand if they are caught in the act of street racing or driving recklessly but to be pulled over and harassed for just driving on a Friday night.

Why don't they go to the spots where they have those stupid sideshows, there won't be any imports. Just a bunch of camaros, mustangs and the variety of junk buckets with some ridiculous chrome rims that cost more than the car itself.

This happens anytime a Fast and Furious flic comes out. Last time I remember news reports of little rice rocketteers getting out of the movie and trying to imitate....and the cops waiting nearby the movie theatres and pickin them off. It's just an easy excuse to meet the ticket quota.

Similar "crackdown" going on here in Sac area, especially around Elk Grove. Seems to be in direct response to a number of recent deaths, the most recent was a kid who was killed when he was t-boned by a Camaro who had just been reported racing another Camaro.

I saw a local news report, they had pulled over some riced-out Civic and a riced-out old Jetta. Each one was lowered a bit, neither one appeared to be "fast" to me, but I guess it's "the look" that can get you pulled over now.
