um...if you zoom by a patrol car going 100+ mph, you're already speeding. The question would be how fast I was going. The way I saw it, I got caught with my hand in the cookie jar with crumbs around my mouth...how many cookies I ate is another story. And I'm not going to court to say that I wasn't speeding...just to say I'd like to get my fine reduced. We'll see how much the ticket comes out to be first. Are you saying that I could've gotten out of it or something if I told him I don't know?

Let me get this straight. You were going well over 100 MPH, per your admission, and the officer gave you a break and only wrote you up for 98 MPH. Now you want to get your fine reduced?

As if his word in court isn't proof enough??? They're expert witnesses. How many times do I have to say it???

I guess I'm lucky he didn't write me up for over 100+. The officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going and told me that honesty can only help me so I told him over 80 mph. I figured, there's no way he'd just let me go with a warning anyways since I was going so fast and with that answer, I wasn't lying either. Anways, tells me that he tried to pace me and I was still pulling away. After the ticket, I started thinking about that pacing thing...I was only speeding for about a mile and when you're going that fast, you can only go 100+ for only a few seconds (I had to exit so I needed to slow down anyways). So how does a CHP patrol car get out of the traffic in the slow lane quick enough to come after me (didn't turn on his lights he said until he caught up to me) when I"m doing maybe 110 mph (and I say maybe because I was paying attention to the road and not my speedometer) and pace me long enough to say I was going that fast? well, anyways, just asking...i deserved that one. what sucks is that I thought I was late for a wedding banquet and when I got there, turns out I wasn't late at all. So I sped and got a ticket for nothing. Well, Officer Sleeper (I think that was his name), if you're out there, can you let me off with a warning next time? =)
As far as providing you with our pacing tactics, that remains confidential. Apply for the job and come on a ride-a-long. As far as making a statement to how fast you were going, the fifth amendment still applies. A traffic stop is technically an arrest. "Techinically", some would say miranda applies, therefore if you went to court, your statement wouldn't be admissible if you were not read your rights. Fat chance of that. The judge always asks us if you said anything. I'll try and put in a good word for you. Officer Sleeper is a co-worker and an academy classmate of mine. My advice, take one for the team and pay the ticket.

and skeleton_cru, yeah, I'd like to get my fine reduced if at all possible even though I got a break on the ticket. Wouldn't you? Or should I not be doing something like that?

You already got your break. Sack up and pay your fine.

well, you should try and find out if he actually write up that civic or just let him go. If he did just let him go, but not you...bs imo. You're not being treated equality as someone else who was braking the law right next to you. Shouldn't everyone be equal under the law? Be it Civic or G35 driver. Take it to court and ask the officer why he did what he did. As for license/insurance, should be easy to clear that.

I'm curious to hear what comes out from producing an IL license in court. I have moved several times and all states have laws about how soon you need to get a local license. it says you are supposed to get some fine for that - so interestingly, you could produce the license, get one charge removed, in the process admit to being a CA resident and possible incur a new fine for that.

Il license

When you move to CA from another state, you have 10 days to get a CA license. You're almost 2 years late...

I believe that if he wrote down anything incorrectly on the ticket you get off on it. If he wrote that you are from the wrong town then i would say take it to court and you are free. Thats how it works here in florida...

I agree, who cares about radar calibrations and pacing being accurate, if you have admitted to your speed, your done! Always keep your mouth shut. THe interrogation starts as soon as the officer gets to your window. He's not being friendly, he's doing his job (which gets a whole lot easier once you admit to your infraction).

In short, if you admit to something he has no choice but to issue you a ticket. Otherwise keep your pie-hole shut and play dumb driver/flow of traffic/new to the area type excuse and he may give you a break...

Otherwise, just don't speed on well know CHP patrolled highway at 3AM.
