I was pulled over last summer by local city police doing 60 in a 40, going downhill in an area known for speeding and radar checks. I get pulled over and get asked how fast I was driving. I say, "Wasn't paying attention but after I saw your lights, almost 60mph". Officer comes back 2 minutes later and just gives me a warning.

Most of the time, I'm guessing being truthful doesn't help, but in this case it did. I was lucky.
