Oh my God. I didn't think ever in my life a cop in CA would give someone a ticket for that. Yeah, you'll be getting mail. Was the lane change blatent, or dangerous? Did you cut someone off?

Some guy infront of me stopped to make a left turn into a small street so i just merged into the lane next to me so I wouldnt stop and wait for him. There was a car like 10 feet behind me in the lane I was merging into. Just wanted to know how much its guna cost.

Wow! That is absolutely crazy. Cop must have been light on his quota last month and needed to catch up. Good thing they are focused on the real dangers out there on the road. I don't know how much it would cost, but I would have to think it will not be a big fine.

I would agree with cyberecho79. You would get something in the mail about how much you would pay for the ticket. Since this is not a speeding violation, your fine would be around $200 or less. Whatever you get in the mail would give you some idea wherever you need to attend 8 hours traffic school, online class or you just the fine and that's all. Good luck and sorry about it!! Seem like you just happend to be in the wrong time at the wrong place!!
take care,

Where did this happen exactly? Just so I know to stay away from that area. And I would think that this is a moving violation and you will get a point on your record unless you go to traffic school correct?

Is a carpool lane violation a moving violation? Those don't carry any points.

No it is not a moving violation. You will not get a point nor will you have to go to traffic school for it. It is considered as a civil penalty so all you have to do it pay the fine.

I know this b/c I got a ticket a few months back for driving in the HOV lane. I had to swerve into it to avoid an accident and this is what the judge told me when I appealed it in court.

BASE ACURA TLX NOW WANT A G35 AGAIN THOUGH
hey i just paid my ticked for $351.00 for my 96MPH on San Mateo Bridge...I believe it's a point...however, on my ticket it said I was not eligible for traffic school...it's been 10+ years since i got a speeding ticket...when I called the Alameda County's Clerks office, they said I was eligible...

I'm waiting to hear back from the courthouse to see if they will let me go to traffic school....

Anyone else ever been in this situation?

Damn Point..hope my insurance isn't going to go up....

I recently got a 94 in a 70. Luckily I was able to slow down at least to that. 25 or over the limit is not eligible for traffic school and also I think it affects your rates more drasticlly too. Not sure if its 1 or 2 points! Try going to court and see if they will let you do traffic school, you can also get a reduction on your ticket.

Once you receive the actual ticket, just contest it by mail.
Or just go to court to get a lesser fine + traffic school.

Contesting by mail really works.

That's ****ty luck dude, cops usually never give out tickets for not signaling for lane change. But given what you said about a sudden lane change w/ a car 10ft behind you is a pretty close call and in that instance I can see why the cop ticketed you for it T.T

If you don't want to take a day off to court, do a Written Trial of Declaration. But you'll have to pay all your fines, then write a plea letter to the judge. If he/she decides to reduce or waive your fine, you'll get that portion back.
