Okay Pioneer Park is out...they are booked every Sat. & Sunday thru Sept. There is a new park called Rotary Centennial Park not too far from where Pioneer is, it is available Sat. Aug. 11th, Sat. Aug. 18th and Sat. Sept. 8th. I had her check only those three dates. I will try to get by there on Sunday to check parking. The lady I talked to said there have been a couple large gatherings there and she thinks parking should be sufficient. If I can get by there sooner I will. There is also a park in Arroyo Grande, called Biddle Park but I don't think the parking was paved, I will also try to find out about that.

Okay, heres the scoop on parks:

Rotary Centennial Park, Santa Maria - Has a compact parking lot but it does have 104 spaces and some curbside parking also. Has plenty of picnic tables (covered) and a nice bbq area to hold as many as we have show up. as of Friday It was available on Aug. 11th, Aug. 18th, Sept. 8th, Sept. 15th I didn't check on Aug. 25th since I saw someone post HIN was that weekend somewhere. It's $180.00 for reservation, additional $40. for bbq pits.

Cuesta Canyon Park, San Luis Obispo - Has plenty of parking as long as there isn't a huge gathering there besides us. It has a picnic area that will seat 72, with a med. size bbq pit. They have the perfect area that will seat 160 with 2 pits but it is only available Aug. 25th and Sept. 15th. The smaller area that seats 72 is available Aug. 18th, Sept. 8th. $90.00 reservation fee.

After looking at both I would lean more towards Cuesta, the only real drawback is the available dates. Now the weather here is awesome in Aug. & Sept. so that shouldn't be an issue at all. It just depends on everyones schedule. Cuesta is also close to downtown San Luis Obispo and there are about 4 or more hotels within a mile of the park for those staying. My concern is if the large bbq area is being used by someone else it will take up our parking. Plus I'm not sure how many we will have turn out and the smaller area may not even hold us.

I guess whatever you guys decide just let me know and I'll get the reservations made, but we should hurry even if we do it in Sept.

Well, tell us specific location nearby ocean where we could find the parking for about 100 cars and place for about 150~200 ppl to eat/BBQ, and I'm sure we will be more than happy to check it out...

We tried and thanks to G-Ticket we have a few places to meet at. This is a hard thing to pull off and yet be central to most...We can always make the next one better...Lets focus now on the BBQ aspect and date..

I did try to find a location near the ocean, unfortunately around here it's tourist season and anywhere near the ocean is a hotel or restaurant and they are always packed. For those interested we could always take a little cruise after the bbq out to Avila Beach, it's only about 12 miles or so south of Cuesta Park and about 25 miles north of Centennial Park. We could watch the sunset on the pier out there and they have a pretty good size parking lot. Just a thought and we can decide at the meet, don't have to plan it now.

Loc, Thanks for looking out and find us an sponsor, as for what specific items needed from sponsors? contact Firedawg63nLA, he might have better ideas.

Personally speaking? I rather not have any "sponsorship" at this time, not that I would not welcome them, its just we have no idea as what kind of turn out we going to have, from looks of "pick date" thread? there dont seem to have much of interest (16 votes only ), and if in fact we have small turn out (less than 50 cars total) it might reflect badly on us and might put our chance for future sponsorship in jeopardy. Of course, it will also depends on what our sponsors expecting from us in return.

By the way, please check this thread for meeting date...

I voted but August 11th or 18th doesn’t really make a difference to me. I’m sure a lot of people are taking wait-and-see approach and will get more enthusiastic once the date is set and actual organization of the event gets underway. So let’s do that!

Its difficult to organize this type of event if you dont know the turn out going to be, even roughly, I mean so far we have 18 votes ONLY!, what would be a point to spend couple of hundren dollars to reserve a park for just 20 cars? We could find some ocean front locations for that, but if we did that? what if we get more interests later on like you said and 30 more cars wanted to attend? it would be too late to reserve a place by then.

With current interest, I cant see this meet happening.
