idiot in concord

http://www.kcra.com/news/13757790/detail.html

CONCORD, Calif. -- A man who said he mistakenly left his 11-month-old son in a hot car for more than six hours while he went to work was arrested Wednesday night in the boy's death.Danny Takemoto, 46, of Benicia, was booked on suspicion of felony manslaughter, said Concord police Lt. David Chilimidos.Takemoto told police that he neglected to drop off the child at a day care center and instead drove to work Wednesday morning, Chilimidos said.

The temperature in Concord reached 81 degrees Wednesday but would have been much higher inside the vehicle. An autopsy likely would be conducted Thursday, authorities said.At least 15 small children have died so far this year nationwide after being left in hot vehicles, according to a study published in Pediatrics, the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics and updated July 12. Last year, 29 children died, and 42 died in 2005, the study said.Under California law, leaving a child, age 6 or younger, alone in a vehicle is a citable offense.

i would think that the baby would at least make some kind of noise in the backseat so you can't completely not know he was there. he doesn't look in the rear view mirror at all?? whenever i get out of my car and lock it...i always give my car a quick look-through inside and out to make sure everything's fine. i guess he just ran out, closed the door behind him and walked straight the other way without glancing back...

EXACTLY, Benecia to Concord is still quite a distance to drive. It's hard to believe that the baby never made a sound the whole way.

Do those of you commenting above ever drive a baby somewhere in the morning?

I never came close to leaving a kid in the car, but there were a couple of times when I took the turn heading to work and then turned to look in the back seat to see if I had the baby and sure enough...

It might be easier than you think. I can't even imagine how bad that guy feels.

+1 . . . Points to ponder.

I can still remember having 2 baby seats in the back. Man, that was a bunch of driving around in the mornings to drop my kids off at my mom's house. I have never forgotten that I had the kids in the back seat. Unfortunately, as we have seen on too many occasions, it does happen . . . And is met with fatal consequences.

I cannot even begin to imagine the grief, guilt and agony, which the father must be going through.

Yeah, heard that on the radio that he was released.

I just don't understand why the day care center notified the mother very late in the afternoon. Sometimes they call home to check on to see if the baby will be dropped off that morning. Real...sad!

Now that he's home, his wife might file a charges.... It's called a DIVORCE.

Yeah, saw that in the news last night... It's so heartbreaking. I heard the father's very distraught and that this family have been trying to have this baby for a long time. I couldn't fathom the extreme pain this father is experiencing knowing that he'd killed the same life he'd created. May the baby RIP.

My cousin who owns their own business, her husband works for a corporation and has a little baby, had set up a "little reminder" for themselves. They put the baby bag in the passenger seat next to either my cousin's purse or her husband's laptop so when they reach their destination and when they are to grab their perspective purses or laptop bag, the baby bag is a reminder that the baby is still with them.

This happened to her husband once when he needed to drop off the baby and he had an impending big meeting at the office... when he reached the office, he realized that their baby was still in the backseat because the baby bag was next to his laptop on the passenger seat... and that's when he drove back out, dropped the baby off to day care and went back to the office.

Just thought I'd share that idea.

Hmm... I still find it hard to believe the people forget that they have a freakin' child in the car... You physically put the child there, buckle their seat belt, and then you turn around to get in the driver seat to forget that you have your own kid in the car? That doesn't make sense to me... Perhaps they should add a feature to the car where the car will make your key fob beep or something when there is a child left in the car.

It makes sense to me... Every day, at least when I remember to bring it, I physically put my laptop in my trunk, make sure it's secure in the net so it doesn't slide all over the place, and then forget to take it out when I'm at work. Another reason why I don't want a kid right now...
