No way dude! I won't touch Shabu Shabu ever again. The meat I had was perfect, I just didn't slice it thin enough...

What was your bad experience with shabu shabu? I've Noticed at chinese markets like lyons and ranch 99 the quality of the meats is not so great. at Mitsuwa you can get anything up to REAL Kobe Meat from Japan. Last week I had the American "Kobe" It was GREAT! Soft buttery meat, well marbeled. i think theres a mitsuwa in San Jose.

You had to be on our end of the table at the Shabu Shabu meet. We had no idea how or what to do. We all just ate rice. Well, I was eating the tofu and mushrooms without even cooking them. We ended up with a pot of boiling beer with fat floating on top.

I, personally, hate having to cook my own food at a restaurant. I have to agree with Boris, I'm never doing Shabu Shabu again unless I go with someone that knows what they're doing.

Well, that place we went to isnt very good at all, it use plain water instead of beef/chicken stocks, lack of dipping sauce (Chinese bbq sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, raw egg, fermemted red bean curd/chive, garlic, green onion mix them together? thats dipping sauce, which is available at other hot pot places) and varietiy of ingredients, such as 4~5 different types/cuts of meats, fish/meat *****, cottofish/squid... next time try some type of Koran BBQ or hot pots, much much better than that Cafe Mum place, but we went there to drink not really to eat per say...

Might be good idea to do that for next meet , the weather is perfect for that kind of meal.

Ya, I understand the main reason that place was chosen was because it was all you could drink. It was too bad that I was too hungry to drink more than the one beer and the several shots of sake I had.

Don't get me wrong, the SF mini meets are always fun because of all the regulars that go. I had fun that night and can't wait for this coming Friday night. Black Angus, right? I didn't like the food there last time I went years ago (no offense to the people that have spent their time setting this up), but it'll still be fun as hell, for sure.

Ok that explains things. But Shabu Shabu is very simple, You take all your raw ingredients throw them in the boiling pot. throw a few slices of meat in when you want them. stir it around.

Shane You could always bring your own Knorr bullion cubes to add. Sneak in your own sauce. As long as I have some Sesame-Soy sauce dipping sauce i'm Cool. Sux that the place you went to can't figure it out. I'm guessing that it's one of those Fusion-Asian Places. probally a korean or maybe chinese owner. Worst sushi I've had other than Caucasions trying to make it was korean sushi.....YUCK
