My baby was in a HIT AND RUN! I NEED SOME ADVICE!

Hi all -

I'm new to this forum...I actually heard about it from a member who randomly told me about this site in a parking lot at Ocktoberfest this year. Haha. Anyway, I'm in need of some advice...

This past weekend my baby...'05 G35 coupe...was involved in a terrible hit and run accident. I think someone must have backed into my driver side door. I think it was a plastic bumper that made the impact but it hit me hard enough to push the panel against the glue on the collision beam causing some major dents and a small crack in the paint.

At first I didn't think it was that bad so I had an expert dent guy to look at it...he said he'd be able to fix it but I'd have to live with the paint crack...which isn't too big. But afterwards, just to get a second opinion, I had a body shop look at it. They pointed out that my colission beam may be bent. They took apart my door and said it was. (I couldn't really tell from looking at it...but then again, I'm clueless about things like this) They said my only option would be to replace the door altogether and repaint the door along with the whole side of my car to blend in the paint. He said that's important because my color (pearl white) needs to be blended in with the paint.

I brought the car back to the dent guy and he said the collision bar should be okay and it would be better not to have to repaint the car cause it would ruin the value of the car and would be noticable. I'm confused and don't know what to do! Does anyone have any advice for me? I want another opinion at the very least. And I want to make sure whoever works on my car is going to do a very good job. Any recommendations in the Bay?

from that sentence it makes him sound like he is just trying to make a buck. would you buy a car if the doors paint is all cracked? cause i know sure know i wouldnt.

Got pictures of the damage? cause if the damage is that bad you might have ripples all over the door after he pops them out

Well many people have used the dent guy and he's known to be really good and honest. I trust him but he does know I'm going through insurance (as well as the body shop), so they may both be trying to make some $$.

I'm going to take pictures soon and I'll post them up as soon as I take them.

If it was my car, I would have the door replaced/repainted. You will probably never be 100% satisfied with the dent guy. As Kris mentioned, you may have ripples, etc.

Best bet would be to take it to a shop that can get a perfect match on IP and can get the orange peel to match up with the stock orange peel.

Sorry to read about your incident. As mentioned, I would have the whole door replaced, as well. Good luck to you.
