Actually, with the sticker or whichever the state ref gives you, you have official proof that your exhaust is 100% compliant with the law... But if you print out anything an exhaust company's website says, it still doesn't mean anything to the government. Yes, they can still pull you over for anything including the exhaust, but getting pulled over again and getting another ticket are two completely different matters.

Uh, no. BAR just doesn't have any testing in place for motorcycles....yet. Same with diesels. It's coming though.

Oh I see. I stand corrected then.

Just get a diesel before '08 and you are safe from the BAR.

I wonder if we can get away with using a stock exhaust system to get reffed then put on the aftermarket exhaust, only if the exhaust is pretty quite.

Stop with the urban legends. Please. Nothing in that section regarding exhaust systems. That's for sounds systems only. P/A's included.

27007. No driver of a vehicle shall operate, or permit the
operation of, any sound amplification system which can be heard
outside the vehicle from 50 or more feet when the vehicle is being
operated upon a highway, unless that system is being operated to
request assistance or warn of a hazardous situation.

***Update

Brought my car to a referree today and they signed it off and gave me a sticker to show that it complies with the sound regulation. It tested right under 90dB. I have to use the sticker to clear the ticket, but I made a copy to put in my car in case I get pulled over again.

Great news. This thread should come in handy for future such tickets.

I should also mention that the referee appt was free of charge. And if you are in CA, you can schedule one by calling (800) 622-7733. You can only do this if you have a citation though.

Thanks for the follow-up, Patrick. Really pleased that you got the sticker and nothing more.

Doesn't it feel good being in compliance with the law?

Has anyone gotten one of these in cali? How much is it just to pay it and is there any way to get it signed off without putting on the stock exhaust?
I am not telling you to go to the emissions place across the street from the DMV in San Pedro. I have never done anything like that before.
