MachIII vs. SPC -- 0:2
MachIII vs. SPC -- 0:2
I've heard good things about MachIII on this forum, so I decided to take my car there to get SPC front camber kit and SPC rear camber kit/toe bolts installed, together with tein basic coilovers. I've asked to lower the back by 1''.
Day one:
the shop said they could not bring my rear toe back to specs. I left the shop with 1.1 degree toe!!!
I went home, found DIY on this forum and e-mailed to them. Turns out they did not elongate the holes at all
And they told me they did plenty of SPC installs before
Day two:
I had to drive to their shop again (~1 hour away from me) to fix the issue. In the end, they were able to put the toe back in specs (0.11), but the rear camber is -2.2 degrees
After day two I left their shop with -2.2 camber and they said there is nothing else they can do
The funny thing is that the second time I went there I asked to lower my rear another 0.25'' (note, that tein basics give you only 1.2'' lowering in the back max), they said they did that. I've looked, and it seems like there is still thread left to go lower. Now do the math: 1'' first time + 0.25'' second time ... should be down all the way...
oh well.
I think they only lowered the back by 1'', and with SPC camber arms and toe bolts they were not able to align me back in specs.
I have been searching online and never heard of anyone with that problem. SPC rear kit is supposed to be good enough, especially with such a mild drop like 1''.
Has anyone had similar problem with SPC rear? Can you recommend me another place to take my car to (I am not going back to machIII due to the obvious reasons
) which knows for real (or able to figure out) how to deal with SPC rear camber kit/toe bolts?
Thanks

you need to beat their AS@!
Get your money back for the alignment at least, so you can get it aligned correctly!
I have Tanabe Seven Pro's with no camber kit, with a drop of 1.5 in front and 1.25 in rear....I have -2.0 Camber all around.
No feathering or tire wear problems what so ever with my Toyo TR1. With a camber kit they should be able to bring you back into specs. Even with more agressive drop in front as long as you don't go over 1.5", I have not had problems with premature tire wear in front.
With rear you have to be careful, there is a fine line, for me I found that 1.25 is the threshold for my G. So far so good. Toe is what kills your tires, not camber. Negative camber is good for our cars........Good luck!
Hmmmm . . . Mach III installed my Tein Basic set-up about a year ago. The rear SPC camber kit was installed prior to their working on my car. They did an alignment after the Tein install and I have had no issues since then. My rear alignment specs were adjusted to dead center factory spec. My tire wear front and back has been even. Actually, I am going back to Mach III in a few weeks.
A handful of us frequent Mach III on a regular basis without issues. I am sorry to read about your bad experience. Unfortunately, I trust that you were an isolated case.

Thanks guys. Currently I am looking for a shop that would be willing to try and fix that.
I hope so. However, it is hard for me to see how this seemingly deterministic problem contains such a large degree of uncertainty. It is a classical object in the end of the day
What I don't really understand is why, with all the experience they have, they have not even tried to elongate the holes for toe bolts (the kit I provided had instructions and templates)
In any case, I guess they did the best they could
I would like to see if someone could recommend me another shop to take my car to ... maybe another place would have more "luck" with it.

This is good feedback to hear as I called them up to do my SPC rear camber install.....maybe I will need to discuss this with them to make sure they understand what they need to do as I told them about elongating the holes and they said it was not needed???
They also installed my Tien CS and I have had no issues but this makes me feel a little uneasy.

They had no problems sending me home after day one with 1.1 degree toe telling me that toe is not a big deal and 1.1 is nothing to worry about
Make sure that you tell them to elongate the holes for the toe bolts -- don't listen to what they say -- ask them to follow SPC kit installation instructions
They should have DIY because I e-mailed them one
Good luck -- I hope they'll get it right on your car

if you in the san jose milpitas area a place called black trax did my SPC camber and toe. They did an awesome job. They slammed my car to the max with the tein flex. They slotted the toe and everything. Aks for a guy name jay. He was the one who did it for me. Say jimmy the guy with the tein flex problem with the g35. He should remember me becuase i had problem at first like yours. Black Trax is i milpitas. If you have ne mor questions PM me....jay is really honest and tells you straight up
