when will people understand that exceptions are no excuse for wide-reaching laws: terrorist activity is no excuse for the patriot act, and the possibility of people pointing guns at cops from inside cars is no excuse for tint laws.

If this is such a needed law, what about all the states that DO allow front window tint? cops dying by the droves or what?

EDIT: It would be much more accurate to say when will AMERICANS understand that laws cannot be made because of exceptions, because Europeans understood the importance of personal freedom a long time ago. I've lived in Europe, Canada, and the US, all for over 4 years each, and I've seen the distinct attitudes towards the law. In America I'm simply terrified of cops, my heart skips a beat everytime I see those crown vic headlights. In Canada they're less imposing, but in Europe you genuinely have nothing to fear from police unless you're actually a criminal. Tickets, etc have much lower implications and I at least have had an almost 100% success rate negotiating my way out of them.

G35Chippie: I'm sorry to be attacking your colleagues and your institution like this, I hope you can at least understand my frustration with being made into a criminal over and over again. From what I've seen on this forum, you are an intelligent and well-meaning individual, if a bit brainwashed with all this "law" business. Please understand that, like you, I have the strongest possible allegeance and committment to justice. Unlike you, I consider "the law" to mean absolutely nothing when divorced from justice.

And now I'm going to go for something we can all relate to: a long and enjoyable (and FAST) drive

And believe me, I definitely understand the concept of "paying the piper": if anything I've been really, really, really lucky with cops...especially when I first got the car, I was ALWAYS blasting down i280 at 100+ speeds, cops didnt even seem to exist Getting a couple of 80, 85 tickets and some fixits is really nothing compared to what I could have been hit with. which brings me to another point: what's the point of laws you cant even enforce a tenth of the time? they just breed contempt of the legal system.

EDIT: to rwcblkcoupe: Dont think I dont know driving that fast is unsafe, I do, and because of it I dont really break 100 very often anymore. When I do, I make as sure as I can that the danger is only to myself: empty freeway, slow down near other cars, etc. And I'm not specifically talking about speed here, I was talking about tint. Arguing that 110mph doesnt warrant a ticket is much harder to do

Man,
You like to see yourself talk....
Ok as Americians we are very lucky to be able to have dialoge such as this. Please know i dont mean to attack you..im not that way.. however I hope you would take the time to read your own post. You state that you would Always be blasting down 280 at 100+ mph... well i will tell you my friend i would be the first one on the cell phone to CHP if you blew by me... It is people like yourself who kill families and orphan childeren when there parents are killed by some stupid a$$ like yourself. I.M.O part of (our)Americans problems are that we have so many rights we feel we can make up our own rules. I am not tring to start anything here... truly im not.. but
**** man if your that unhappy here.. move to Europe and drive as fast as you want... just remember ... if your in the fast lane on the autobahn in your G ... i can assure you you'll get yourself a fat ticket... driving too slow...
Peace man... thanks for the dialoge.. P.S im on 280 all the time... i have a kid... keep it under 90 please as for the cops ..there are good ones and bad ones... dont attract them...and you wont need to deal with them
