Brakes help

I need some advice. Just before the meet I had my brake pads changed and rotors resurfaced. It was free, so I did it. Now as I'm reading around in the forum, I'm seeing Infiniti doesn't recommend the resurfacing. I was told the swish sound would disappear after 100 miles or so and it hasn't. It's really annoying.

1. How safe am I?
2. If I buy better rotors what am I looking at for labor cost?
3. How do I find out if a entirely new setup (big brakes?) will fit with my rims?
4. Can I get away with just changing the rotors to something better with OEM pads? (If I have to do things in stages because of cost).

Thanks!

it all depends on how much money you are trying to spend? the simple and cheaper thing to do is buy oem spec rotors and change them out yourself. it's almost as simple as changing rims. I bet your GM Garage crew can help you out with that.

If you want to go BBK it will cost a lot more, but this can also be DIY'd. it takes a bit longer than just changing rotors though.

Kris and Chris and I can help you do it. I know Rob had he resurfaced and his were fine. It also depends on what pads you got.

You should be safe! Kris did mine about 3 weeks ago I had the same sound but it went away he put new pads on and they work great.

let us know if you need help!!

Big sigh of relief here. Thanks guys.
That takes the pressure off me and I can find a deal on the good stuff.

Thanks for putting up with the girly questions.

Edit: I was driving like a demon on the Santa Cruz run and feeling guilty about my brakes putting my family ( G family too) in danger.

You should be fine with resurfaced oem rotors but if you're going to get new ones then you might as well get some nice drilled or slotted rotors, maybe upgrade to SS braided lines and motul brake fluid while you're at it. You can retain the stock calipers and use performance pads.

Something like the Stoptech Stage II kit. It's about 1/5 of the cost of a full BBK.

Dealers always say this stuff. You need to buy their overpriced parts!

Resurfacing rotors once is very common. That noise does usually go away as the pads & rotors break in. Unless you're getting brake fade you really don't need the BBK unless you just want the look. Don't forget about the added weight.

Sounds like you're in good hands with your boys. Good luck & have fun with it

As a few of you guys know, I'm helping a family member these days.

1. What am I looking at as far as life of what I have now?

2. I'm drooling over the stoptech stuff. Thanks a lot....lol
If you were to phase in a better setup, how would you do it?

The new pads that were compatible to OEM were installed the week before the run. They also resurfaced to rotors a "special" way? He said he had to do them slowly or (something I'm not remembering) would be bad.

I should have paid more attention.
I feel like a dork.... gah!

A good set up for a low cost would be Brembo blanks and a good set of pads. I believe a good set of pads is important that slotted or drilled rotors. Then have the boys at the GM garage install for beer and pizza.
