Fun places to go in SF?
I'm not gonna list any large venues because they are always hit or miss depending on the night and who's promoting there. But the smaller venues are usually good, usually depending on weather, and there are always tons of them on the same few blocks.
Holy Kow.. The place is usually packed and there won't be much space on the dance floor, but I like the crowd there. If the place is too small for you, DNA Lounge, Slim's, and a few other large venues are right around the corner.
There are tons of smaller venues on Broadway, next to all the strip joints. Once you get there, you can just pick the crowd you wanna party with and follow them, I guess...
And right around the corner from Broadway is North Beach with an alleyway looking street with tons of slightly smaller venues too.
Then there's Vertigo... not my kind of crowd, but it is a mixed crowd. There are tons of venues on the same street there too...
As you can tell, I like to bar hop... Although Holy Kow and Butter used to be two of my favorite venues, I would suggest Broadway instead since there's a much broader selection of venues in that area...
As for the larger venues, Suite 151 can be a hit or miss, but they're known to always have a crowd. There's another venue there in the TL, about a block or so away from 151, forgot what it's called...

^I hate their manager and head of security... I'm not the only one in the industry with that opinion of them either.^
But I guess the place can be fun if you're into the rave scene. Then you can follow the crowd on over to The Endup when they kick everyone out.

If he does, then he has to check out Ruby Skye. It is definitely a good club experience going there.
