Although many diverse theories exist to explain the origin of the term, one central root of the phrase stems from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California in 1971; the teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke cannabis at the Louis Pasteur statue.[3][4] The term became part of their group's salute, "420 Louis!",[5] and became popularized in the late 1980s by fans of The Grateful Dead.[6] Many North American cannabis users continue to observe 4:20 as a time to smoke communally. By extension April 20 ("4/20" in U.S. dating shorthand) has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis.[7][8][9] In some locations this celebration coincides with Earth Week.[10][11][12]

 

Supposedly, about 20 years ago or so, a group of kids from San Rafeal would smoke at 4:20, so 420 became their code to meet up and toke. nm, Kris got it... lol



I've been so baked for the past two days, I feel smoked out now... I can't even smoke a cigarette right now...

 

i was watching the news and hella people at US santa cruz were hella smoking... all u saw was a see of people and smoke in the air... HAHA

Hi Shaba, What's LPC? Sorry, I didn't really become familiar w/ 420 until very recently. All of my education about the stuff came from my 3 LAPD Uncles and 1 DEA Uncle who scared the crap out of us and hence, none of us ever touched it... well, except for my genius cousin who's a professor @ an Ivy League college back east. LOL

But my father eats it after each of his chemo-therapy sessions, prescribed by his doctor. It has helped him tremendously and I noticed his vomitting has decrease by 90%. He has his appetite back and has gained some of his weight back to fight his disease. That's why I started to become familiar w/ it... and I do support it medically. Plus it makes him sleep better.
