I live in the bay area and I usually go down Highway 5. speed limit is 70 or 75so 80 is safe. Where are you located?

yup take the highway 5 all the way to LA. It should take around 6 hours, i think it should be like 400 mile trip so it all depends on your speed. Highway 5 is the fastest way but theres also highway 101 which has heavier traffic usually. when are you planning to go down?

depends where you are going in LA. For example, if you are going to Santa Monica, then the 680 to 101 is probably best. The 101 has terrible traffic problems pretty much all the time, however so does I-5 once you get a little south of Valencia on a weekday evening.

I make it to from San Francisco to Sherman Oaks in 4 hours every time. 370 miles. The 5 is looooong and straight, and radar picks up cops 2 miles away. Easy to maintain a 90MPH average. Just time your trip so you don't leave/arrive during peak traffic hours...

If you're in vacaville, you might want to take 80 => 680 concord => 580 stockton => 5 LA. I'm in dublin, so thats the route i take coming back from Davis. I think if you take the 5 your firend recommended, you'd have to go north towards Sacto first, that would just make your drive longer. It also depends what time you're leaving at. If it's a friday, you need to be past Dublin before 2pm.

i've taken the socal trip many many times. home is in fremont, but went to school down there for 4 years. I definetely suggest taking highway 5 over 101. 101 is the more scenic route, but speed limit is lower and there are more cops. highway 5 is boring, but you can go faster, less cop issues (at least for me and my friends).

^^^ LoL that is 100% correct!! I live in Coalinga and i see them pass by everyday as i return home from work.

Depending on where you are going in SoCAL you might want to think about taking 210. If you arent going into the middle of LA, 210 is a good way to avoid nasty traffic.

I don't know about that... On my last trip down (my first trip down) I was pushing my car to the limit and no cops in sight But that was wayyy dangerous, once in a life time thing so don't do that.

But 5 is awesome if you got company but going down 5 alone would be a PAIN
