New Law effective 7.1.08 . . .

This has been posted prior . . . But, since it's coming up very soon, I thought that I would borrow it from the OT board and toss it out, again.

We have been advised of the above for about 1-1/2 years, now. I wonder how many people will be caught off guard on this?

It will be like shooting fish in a barrel buddy! I hope everybody doesn't think this is some state congressman's way of raising revenue. The first fine is only $20 I think. It definately distracts people's driving. It even gets coded on page 2 of a traffic collision report; whether a cell phone was in use, hands free device, etc. 23123 and 23124 are the sections.

^I wish the fines were steeper, that way it really gets violator's attention.

I think this is a great law. I remember reading originally that they weren't going to be pulling people over specifically for it...which I always thought was ridiculous. This Q&A says different though...very nice...

many fools on the highway in Ca. without having them being distracted by
the cell phone! The doctor (lady) up the street was driving the other day
on the cell....brushing her teeth. How is this possible, who's DRIVING the
car? We NEED this law, should have been put into effect last year...! Maybe
they can raise enough revenue to keep our schools open, and have teachers
too....

I wonder when they will start being funny about cd players, etc? Must be just as distracting fiddling around with a cd in the car, as it is a phone?

These should be passed in every state. They were passed a long time ago in NY and D.C.

i'm a fan of the laws, and i'm happy that the bluetooth in my car works as well as it does.

i just wish i could make a citizen's arrest whenever i DO see someone breaking these new laws. i could be part of the C.O.P. program... let's see who gets the movie reference.
