They're actually saving your tax dollars. If they had to post a real officer there it would cost a whole lot more. The dummy is a low cost alternative to making people slow down.

or they could just leave it be. you dont need a cop there everyday all day. and it wasnt like that car was free.

in fact they dont even need the dummy in the car at all people will slow down anyway.

haha....right around the corner from me, at the 4 way stop sign, from time to time, the city cops ghost a squad car at the corner. I've never seen a dummy in it though

Semantics. Bottom line: It's cheaper than a live officer and it works.

That's funny, because I get passed everyday. If I'm doing 65, get passed. 70? Right on by me. 75? Yep. 17 year old kid did it to me, then had the ***** to take me to court. I'm not quite sure but maybe the black and white patrol car with cherries and berries on top and the words "Highway Patrol" written across the back of the trunk might be a big clue. Californians love to drive and drive fast. I don't want to hear bitchin' and whinin' about gas prices when the soccer mom is blasting past me at 85. You would think people would start slowing down to conserve fuel, right? Nope. Our speed team can write 20-25 speed tickets a piece in less than four hours. That dummy is about as useful our motorcycle officers. Oops, was that out loud?

Haha, Chippie. Ya, bike officers seem like a different breed.
