Oil Consumption

Hi guys. I have an 05 6mt. I changed my oil about 4k ago and just checked it yesterday and it was Low, so I had to add about a qt n half. I know its mainly the 06 n up that have the issue of burning oil and some 05s'. I had the dealer do a consumption test n they said everything is fine, but honestly I shouldn't have to add even a drop of oil after 4k miles. Do you guys think an oil pan spacer will work? Any other suggestions? I have about 63k on it right now n really don't wanna get a new motor or even rebuild it. Thanks for the help.

I don't think that correct and plus the car shouldn't burn any oil regardless if its 250 miles over. My previous cars have gone easy 7500 miles w/ out one spec of oil burned.

That is what they tell you to make you spend more money than you need to. Its a bunch of BS. I go about 4500-4750 miles between changes. Once I switch to synthetic it will be 10000 mile intervals....

So I contacted another local infiniti dealer and told them my car is burning oil and that the previous dealer didn't do jack for me. They said my car had a powertrain warranty til' 70k, so that' 7k away, so now they are doing a second oil consumption. I had to add another 1/2 qt, so that's 2qts in about 3500 miles. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the next 1600 miles til' I go back and they check it.

Long known issue. There's a TSB about it and many threads on Driver. One on my350Z too...one in this section as well.

Your stated consumption according to the TSB qualifies for a replacement, but you said you don't want a replacement......

Just keep adding oil I guess. Oil pan spacer will not help with OC issues.

FYI: 3750mi is the Premier Maintenance shed; same as shed 1. Normal op conditions is shed 2 and 7500mi oil intervals. It's all in your manual lol.

I never said that I didn't wanna an engine replacement. The first consumption test that the dealer did I didn't feel like they were helping and were very shady. They didn't let me see my car in their shop for like 45 min and they said ok we r gonna check your oil now you can come, so that made me very suspicious. Of course after all is said n done they are like everything is normal, which obviously is not cuz my car burned 2 qts in about 3500k. So hopefully the other dealer will realize the issue.

Sry...guess I read that wrong.....

Anyway....
Yup...some dealers will play games about OC. Two seperate dealers did with me. One over filled me with an oil service starting testing and the other topped me off, then took official reading saying I was at full on stick.

Don't let your G out of your sight. That's what I finally did and they couldn't play games any more. Funny how I qualified when I watched them (or my G) that time.

G/L

So, I had the OC test performed on my 05' G35 and it qualified for a engine swap with a brand new motor. I currently have just under 5,000 miles on the new engine and guess what?!?!?! That semi truck rattling noise is back again!!! That usually happens when it's low on oil, when I went it for a fresh new oil change that sound does not exist as the oil is topped off. Let's just say even with an engine change it does not guarantee a fix, it's like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound.

I'm thinking about just going with a stroker kit, I honestly believe it is the seals on the piston. They aren't doing their job and oil is making it's way into the combustion chamber.

Mine during break-in consumed and was a fail on TSB chart, but showed signs of improving.
Now in the 'ok' section of TSB chart and still improving. I check my oil often to see whats up. ~4600mi on mine currently.

My UOA (used oil analysis) showed rings were still in the sealing/seating stage at 3750mi, but a solid build.

These VQ's take a long time to be 100% broken in. Some take up to ~15K I've read and have seen proof with others UOA reports.
These are no way near broken in at 1200mi like manual states.

It's what break-in method you use and how you treat it during the long break-in period for success and/or failure on these imho.

This time I am not letting my g out of my sight, and as a matter of fact i am gonna tell them not to even take it to their shop and just let it sit in the service waiting area before they check the oil. I get that rattling noise like its grinding something or it knocks, so I am sure its because of this oil burning stuff. I just can't wait to get this over & done with and move on. I am so tired of arguing with these crooked dealers & their schemes.

That's good to know, thanks for the input. I guess I just miss the days of driving my modded Civic being able to rev up to 10K whenever, where ever I wanted and not worry about burning up oil.

I hear you on that. These revups are very sensitive I've learned over the past 33 months of ownership.

No problem with the imput...it's been my life since I bought my G back in Jan 2006....

IMHO...they pushed the old VQ35DE blocks/heads too far with the (298hp/300hp on Z's) revup's.
The new 80% redesigned VQ35HR/VQ37VHR series has more HP and no OC issues, so there you go.
Then the GTR's VR38DETT...you can bet they built that one right...lol

But these revup replacements have had revisions, so time will tell if they hold up well and with minimal OC after complete break-in
