ticket @ McD's on Haight.
#16
allow me to clarify sm things:
1. Ticket was issued b/c I "left the premises". I handed my camera to a friend on Haight, came back w/in the alotted 40 mins.
2. It was a private party who issued the ticket, not DPT/SFPD (so I cant call my cop friend to sign off LoL)
3. It was a printed ticket.
4. I dont have possesion of the plates yet.
I called my cop friend and he said that they shouldnt be able to find me w/ the last 7 digits of my vin and just wait for a notice if there is a notice.
The ticket is $40+ w/in 21 days, and $64 after 21 days...I seriously think it was an uneccessary ticket. i stepped out of McD's for 5 minutes to hand my camera to my friend, and they issued the ticket. GRrrRrrRrrrR

Hmmm . . . Were there signs posted up with regard to the lot's parking policies in plain sight?

WHAT??!?! A rent-a-cop gave you a ticket? ROFLMAO
F*** it, they'll never find you.
Even if they do, play stupid-- they can not hold you to pay for the ticket since they don't have the power to levy any additional fines or restrictions as the government agencies do.
Worse case scenario, they can try and take you to court..but they'd have a hell of a time proving it was you and I highly doubt they'd waste hundreds of dollars to collect a mere 40.
They could even send you to collections-- but then again, let them bring the proof you owe it or it was your car..
for 40 bucks, forget about it.

The real question here is . . . Did the person, whom issued the ticket, have the right to issue the said based on the premise's parking policies? I'm sure that random parking is an ongoing problem for these folks and their customers. Why should there be any exceptions? . . . Or should there? Principals based on self entitlement will eventually spawn weak character.
It boils down to . . . If you feel lucky, which we all do at times, you may end up paying the consequences.

Karma can be a b!tch.
Edit: Was the "Rent A Cop" lame because of the way which he/she was walking or simply lame for performing their job?

I understand that he was just doing his job. But there is a fine line between being an 855 and doing your job. I believe there always has to be some room for rule bending, b/c in the end, like Andy sed, what goes around comes around...u show love to folks, u'll get love back.
That rent-a-cop knew I only walked away for 5 mins and came back w/in the alotted time, there is a difference between my 5 minutes and sm1 else's 3 hour shopping spree.
I'm not paying that ticket unless I get a notice.

Human nature dictates that . . . We are so quick to point the finger when wronged. However, we justify are own wrong doings in our own minds.

I've been working my azz off for the last two weeks and this is the first time I have even looked at my computer. Something about this story doesn't make any sense. Somehow, once again, I don't think we are getting the whole story. In order for a security guard to cite you for not having a front plate, a few criteria must be met. Did the ticket say, 5200(a) VC? If so, there would have to be a sign at the entrance of the parking lot that states that per 21113 VC, the parking lot is subject to the Vehicle Code. I highly doubt a McDonald's is going to have this. You see this sign on state property or school parking lots, thing like that. Then, the security guard would also have to be defined under the Penal Code or Vehicle Code as having some sort of authority to enforce laws. Rent-a-cops don't. Call the security company and ask if their employees fall under 830-832.17 PC

Which brings me to my next point. It's private property. VC is not applicable unless signs are posted. So, the owner can probably set his own rules for parking, but they can't be things pertaining to equipment violations. They would have to be things such as over the time limit, taking up two spaces, etc. And lastly, the last 7 digits of the VIN isn't enough. Need all 17 to track you down. And even at that, a security company most likely won't have access to CLETS, which is the system we use to run registration checks among other things. They are either trying to scam you out of money, or there is more to the story.
