Lol . . . We are at the Pho Gardens, now. Two guys just started the challenge. Damn, these bowls are big. I asked and the management said that only 5 of the 80 previous people, whom have attempted this, have actually finished. These next two guys are 81 and 82. You should have seen the looks on heir faces, as the bowls were set in front of them. We are sitting rght next to them.

They have about 15 minutes left. One has already quit and the other is still eating. However, he hasn't even eaten half the food.

The broth is lacking flavor and it's more broth than meat and noodles. I was not very impressed with food. I had a green papaya salad and a large bowl of pho. The pho houses in Daly City and Wesborough are much better.

Sorry, Mike, I was writing from my cell phone when I posted. I left out the word "not", as in . . . I was not very impressed with the food.

It's the typical pho fare. The basil, sprouts and chilies were very fresh. Aside from that, the flavor of their broth is simple and plan. I had the #8 large (raw beef, brisket, tendons, beef *****, etc.). The bowl was big. However, the bowl was filled with mostly the flavor lacking broth. I was actually quite shocked at the small amount of meat in the bowl.

Now, having said that, it is an experience if you go there and happen to see someone attempting the challenge. They only have 2 bowls set aside for this food challenge. The 2 guys next to us were attempting the challenge while 2 people behind us were waiting for the bowls and their turn at it. That experience was well worth the visit.

So do you have to finish the food AND broth? or just the food

Morning, Mike . . . You need only finish the food. The server told us that the trick is to try to finish as quickly as possible. Otherwise, if you take your time, the noodles will expand in your stomach leaving less room for the incoming food. He told us that one kid finished in about 30 minutes.

To be honest, to finish this amount of food, one will definitely end up hurting themselves.

Morning,Andy. It still sounds very tempting. But your review of the broth is a little disappointing. I'm sad to hear that its bland.

Hey Andy,
My friends and I went here yesterday afternoon and I agree on all your points: the quality of food, the tip on how to finish the challenge, etc... When we came in, we were lucky to find that two guys (separate tables) were finishing up their attempt. So then two ppl from my group TRIED THE CHALLENGE.... it was a miserable FAIL!! my friends said its pretty much impossible to hurry it up in the first few mins because the soup was unbarably hot (temperature-wise not spicy). it pretty much burns your tongue to eat it fast... but anyway, my friends couldnt even finish half way... take note that one bow is TALLER than the other lol but the weight of food (2lbs of meat and 2lbs of noodles that soaks up the soup) is extremely heavy on your stomach... just think about it.... if you cant finish 5 one-pound burgers from Fuddruckers, dont even bother trying!!!!! I alone couldnt even finish a half pound burger... shizzz!!!

Good experience overall... the employees are nice and happy with good service... the main waitress (older) can speak both chinese and viet... 2 challengers at a time... and youll have to wait the next hour to try the next challenge... whats funny is all the ppl coming in while they see the challenge in place.... they just STARE and go "whhhhhaaaaaaa" priceless...
