I haven't read the law on this in a long time but... If I remember correctly, you first build it as a single shot and register it as such. Once it has been registered you can make it a semi. Im sure calguns has more info on this.

So back to Ammo, I would also suggest the gun show. I too bought my Ammo there sometime last year for a little cheaper than most online stores + no shipping FTW. Any store around here is going to rape your wallet.

 

I'm all over that part of the law and know how to build a CA-legal semi-auto AR-15 carbine/rifle... just need to get together the funds for it first though
