Had a blast last year. If you have not been on this run, the back roads are awesome and the people are fantastic. Hearst Castle is always great to tour.
We out ran the rain which was fun. Guess it comes with the territory and made for some great rainbows.

Ooh, I live close enough to make a day trip out of it. I'll have to keep this in mind. For anyone who hasn't been to this area it really is beautiful and a fun drive, especially for those of you traveling from the North on the 1. Will keep checking this thread.

Not necessarily?
I took my family (son aged 7 at the time, daughter aged 17). All enjoyed the Hearst Castle tour and visiting/shopping/scenic views of the ocean and surrounding areas.
Late nite bon-fire was a bit too late (perhaps boring .. LOL) for them.
Plenty of opportunity to group up or do individual things .. just depends on "what you might want to do".
