Tahoe Tips and Advice
Hey guys. I'm going to Lake Tahoe (South) for Valentines weekend with my girl and since this is my 1st time going up there in winter (2nd time ever) I wanted some advice on where to go and what to do. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Already got a place to stay close to heavenly and the casinos / downtown now I just need things to do during the day lol.
Dude you should check out the scenic views from the rubicon area about 15 miles past camp richardson, it's beautiful. Go during the day and I promise you that it will a great place to take some pics. I just got back from my family cabin three weeks ago and it was great. Even if you guys have never boarded it would be a good thing to do together.
If it's sunny and you spend time outdoors, wear sunscreen. Seriously.
At 4,500 feet, we are a little closer to the sun than at sea level, but that isn't why the sun's rays feel hotter and many people get sunburned faster. The real reason is the thinner atmosphere; there are simply fewer air molecules to block and deflect burning ultraviolet (UV) rays than lower down. According to the National Science Foundation, there is approximately a 4% increase in UV levels per 1,000 feet of altitude gain. Do the math and you get about 18% more UV in Reno than at sea level. Up at Lake Tahoe, it's over 24%. Now you know why the sun up here feels so fierce and why using appropriate sun protection is important to health and comfort in Reno / Tahoe.
