Pepboys is having a huge sale on Mobil1 Extended Performance and accompanying Mobil1 Extended Performance Oil Filter. $29.99 for one filter and 5qts of the oil. This is NOT the same as regular Mobil1 SuperSyn. This oil is more a competitor to the Amsoil oils, retailing at around $8/qt

I went to stock up and they were sold out, but they were able to sell it to me anyways, with a pick-up date in the near future.

Good deal.. I still have 10 qts left over from the last Costco deal. I just spent $25 on amsoil filter alone.

Need to check out my local pepboys and get me some. When does this deal end?

Keep in mind this is not the same stuff costco sells. They sell the standard 6month SuperSyn formula. The one I am talking about here is the 1yr formula, the EXTENDED PERFORMANCE 15k oil. I think the deal ends sometime in May, probably at the start.

I think the filter it comes with, Mobil1 Extended Performance Oil Filter, is only second to the Amsoil in terms of technology.

I would be inclined to say "no" since that oil, the Amsoil SSO, is intended to be used for 17.5k under severe service. I would let it run the course of intended use of either 1 year or 7-10k miles first, get an oil sample, and then continue as instructed by the lab. Or you could pull a sample now, but changing it so soon would be a waste of money IMHO. Just make sure the oil level is good

Most conventional oils are indeed only good for that type of use, however, the majority of fully synthetic oils have no issue reaching 7k+ while offering excellent protection and fuel economy.
