Recommendations on places to live in south bay/peninsula?

so i am currently in India finishing up my last week of a 3-month training program for a my new job, ill be returning on tuesday and will be looking to find a new place to stay that is located between san jose and san francisco.

my companies main office is in campbell (right outside south san jose) but we have clients all around the south bay up to SF. the client which i will be working with when i return is in south SF. Currently I live in san jose but the commute will be crappy and im dying to live elsewhere for a change lol,

I havent looked much but places im considering are like redwood city, palo alto, and mountain view. though mt view might be a bit too south for my taste; id prefer something more in the middle

basically id just like recommendations of a good city to live in that will be reasonably priced and have a reasonable commute to both SF and Campbell.

I'll be looking for a 2 bedroom apartment or other kind of 2 bedroom home (i dont want to rent a room in a large house, and I do not want more than the 1 roommate i already plan to live with)

price range is around ~2000/month max (not including utilities, internet, cable, etc) and I would definitely prefer to have my own washer/dryer in the aptment rather than a separate laundry room...

if anyone has any specific recommendations or knows people that can maybe give us a good price somewhere that would be greatly appreciated. looking to move in june.

thanks

If you want peninsula, $2000 will get you a good 2 bedroom in Foster City/Belmont/San Mateo/ San Carlos.

Commute to SSF will be about 15-20 min and commute to San Jose will be about 30 min (depending on time). Redwood City only has a few decent places to live as there are some shady areas. Palo Alto is also good but also depends on what part of town you find the place.
