Window tint questions

Does anyone here have a LS G35 with tinted windows? I tried looking through the member's rides but could not see any.

I'm still hesitant of tinting my windows b/c it's more attention from cops (if they were being dicks I could even get a fix-it ticket for it), and it kinda gets rid of that "classy" feel sometimes.

I just wanted to get a general idea of what it looked like, and if anyone in the San Francisco bay area has gotten tickets for tinted windows in the past? What has your experience with cops been for the window tint?

Its 50% on front windows and 20% for the rears, When I had 03' G? I'd got pull over for just tinted window but it was 35% front, so far no problem with the 50% on both of my car.

What does getting pulled over for illegal tint have to do with cops beings dicks? You know what the law is- it's just a choice of whether or not you want to take the risk...

+1 . . . Excellent point, Boris. That is why I am still on the fence with regard to tinting my G. I had my bimmer tinted quite dark when living in Millbrae and one of the local cops called me on it. I eventually removed all of the tint and have never tinted again. Hehehe . . . "Do I feel lucky?" is the question.

If we were being dicks, we wouldn't be issuing a fix-it-ticket. We would check the "no" box were it says "correctible violation", and then it would become a moving violation and about a $300 fine. I usually don't hammer the lighter tints. When I can't see inside the car, I usually have a problem. I have seen tint so dark or so reflective that the driver can't see out the side view mirrors at night.

Angry

My car had tint when I purchased it from the dealer. The dealer had been driving it. I have no problem seeing in the windows and with the sunroof slide open you can see through it fine. But on 3/7 I got pulled over by CHP on a 2-way traffic country road where he was sitting at a 4-way stop. I told him that it was really petty to pick on this middle aged lady when there were real crimes being committed. He just through my ticket in the window and walked off. Now I have to take it off, have it signed off, and drive right back down and have it put back on.

Tinted windows mostly for personal privacy and a little bit to block these hot sunrays toward the leather seats. I can live with these hot sun rays by park my car in the cool shade place; about privacy, hmmmm, what's wrong to kiss your lover in the public place anyway, oh yes we in love alright. But it just a bit of problem because I am single in this area!! Anyway, no tint for me!!, just blue sky and white clouds, exactly. :-)

I got 5% tint all around and only got pulled over once on 101 by SFO. Cop asked if I knew it was illegal and I played dumb and say "I dint know that." That was the first and last time getting any flack from them. Personally I love the way it looks on my BS car plus my eyes are sensitive. It really cuts back the suns rays as I drive. It is a pain in the a** at night though since I cant see nothin. Sometimes I need to roll my window down to back up or take turns in a dark neighborhood. Is it worth it? To each their own but its worth it to me..

g35chippie, otu of curiosity, do you give tickets to those who have the windshield tinted very lightly? I have 60% on my windscreen and I cannot even tell that it's on.

First of all, read California Vehicle Code section 26708(c). Second of all, are you asking me if I have a "thresh hold?" Reminds me of the last guy who took me to court and plead not guilty to exceeding the 65 MPH max. He told the judge he didn't think 75 was that bad. You should have heard the crickets in the court room. If you are doing 66, you are in violation of that code. The bottom line, you can't have tint on your windshield at all, except for the provisions. Tinted front windshield, guaranteed ticket. Tinted side windows, spirit of the law or letter of the law. Don't start complaining if you get a ticket it for it though.

i got the suntek charcoal hp tint...50% front, 30% rear sides, and 20% rear. my G is BO and the interior is black as well. i thought it would look darker but after looking at my friend's G that did 15% rear, i think i woulda liked that better.

on a side question, did anybody have issues with the dot matrices? most of the tint seems flush to the window but some parts around the window edges are "white" in a sense as it doesn't seem to be sticking completely. i asked my installer about this and he mentioned that the only reason the borders aren't all white yet is because it's not 100% dry. however, i'm a little skeptical as it doesn't seem logical to me and there hasn't been much, if any, change at all to the spots where this was an issue? i always thought tint should be down to the glass no matter what car especially so if you're getting it professionally done.
