Proposed Oregon Law: H.B. 2186 Ban on aftermarket auto parts

I hate politics but when it comes to cars, I gotta put my foot down!

NO JOKE, I just want to inform everyone of the crazy new bill, check it out!!

http://www.leg.state.or.us/09reg/mea...2186.intro.pdf

This bill would place restrictions and prohibitions on the sale and distribution of after-market motor vehicle parts, including but not limited to tires, if alternatives are available that decrease greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.

This bill could possibly lead to everyone individual being limited to OEM parts only. Imagine if you were to need a set of tires, you would have to buy OEM tires. I dont know about you, but OEM tires are really expensive. Or if you needed to repair your vehicle or perform basic maintenance, you would would be stuck to buying expensive OEM parts.

Now as an Oregonian and a person, I totally agree that we should reduce our individual "carbon" footprint. I recycle, turn the lights off, and walk if at all possible to save gas. But as a citizen and a believer of free commerce I feel that this is ultimately the wrong way of achieving this.

Any new bureaucracy that restricts is bad bureaucracy!

Why is Ted not taking his time in office an putting it to good use by promoting "green" business. Supporting local farms and encouraging people to buy local foods to reduce "food miles," tax credits for household improvements that increase energy efficiency, and making available infrastructure to provide for cleaner transportation like electric vehicles and plug-in stations? If these things were available I would be definitely be on board.

I truly encourage everyone to contact Oregon representatives and let them know that this is not a good idea. We can all do our part, we don't need Salem to tell us how to do it!

I don't think it will get very far. If they shot down the "tax per mile" bill, this doesn't have a chance either IMHO.....
