You don't need a turbo... in fact for a beginner I'd recommend NOT having a massively powerful car because it will cause you to use it like a crutch and you won't learn good technique
I learned on a stock KA powered 240 with just basic suspension and a VLSD. You can get a stock G sideways, so I'd start practicing with that first, and then start upgrading suspension and LSD to build on the technique. This helps you take advantage of every modification.
