Apple will refund the difference in price if you purchased the phone within 14 days of the price drop.
The $100 instore credit is for those who bought the iPhone at the original $499 and $599 after the 14 day grace period.
The 4gb iPhone is now discontinued. You can still pick one up for the new lower price of $299 but only for the existing inventory. Once they sell all of them, that's it.
You can indeed take out the SIM and not have to tear open the thing. There's a small pin hole at the top where you can "eject" SIM out. Now, will this void the phone? Probably but only because of the service agreement and not because it's dangerous.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've been following the iPhone since they announced it back in Jan.
