how much are you willing to pay for unlocked/tethering enabled version? if 350 like i sold mine for im pretty sure i can get you a 2 week old phone from my friends girlfriend.. she's been wanting to upgrade to 3GS but needs to sell her phone first.. its unlocked as she uses it with Tmobile.. tethering enabled too!

No, just though you might like to know, you don't HAVE to jailbreak it to tether. Found it on YouTube. Took less than 5 minutes.

If you buy an iPhone outright, do with it as you see fit. If you are upgrading, I like to play it safe. You, as you said so eloquently, can do what ever you want with it.

Glad you were able to unload it.

you notice the voicemail doesnt work tho with the youtube "fix"

ALERT: Thread JACK

I have a 3g iphone and I'll be going overseas for a bit. How would I go about unlocking it for use with any carrier (even for use here in the US with ATT but without the bullsh1t $30/month data plan?) I'm willing to pay $5-$15 for the unlocking if I need to, but would prefer to do it myself for free.

rijowysock seems to know about all there is to know about phones, he must work in one of those little kiosks in the mall, I bet he can answer your question.

I do know, if you don't do it right, it CAN cost you LOTS of money in usage charges.
