Going to the track

http://www.midohio.com/School/Course...pen-Track-Time

Do you guys think this would be fun? I don't know about the rest of our members, but I would only qualify for the "Open Track Time/Limited Speed Lead-Follow" session since I've never been to any track before. Although I do want to take classes at that track when money allows it. Maybe anyone else wants to do it with me? Although the speed is limited and you have to follow a pace car, it still seems like it would be fun. The price is $195, which is a lot cheaper than going through all their classes.

Overview

Always wanted to get your car on the track at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course? This is now the least expensive option! Get some track time at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in your qualified street car (Sorry no SUV's, vans or trucks eligible to participate.) Ever wondered what it would be like to take a few laps around the world famous Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course at speed? Here is your most affordable opportunity to get on track. Each group will receive three 20-minute open or lead-follow track sessions, depending on driver qualifications.

Open Track Time/Open Lapping
For those drivers that have completed The Mid-Ohio School's Lapping Program.

Open Track Time/Max Speed Lead-Follow
For those drivers that have completed The Mid-Ohio School's Acura High Performance and Advanced High Performance Courses.

Open Track Time/Limited Speed Lead-Follow
For those drivers who have never been on a track before.

To ensure your safety and others participating, all cars are subject to random inspections before and throughout the test sessions. No convertible vehicles please unless equipped with proper roll over protection.

No passengers in any cars at any time. No exceptions.
This program requires all drivers to use their own street legal vehicle.

Curriculum

Full-course, open or lead-follow lapping in sessions by group
Fuel will be available for purchase

Fuel Available

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course provides the following Sunoco Fuels:
Cam2 (Purple) Leaded 100 Octane
Cam2 (Clear) Unleaded 100 Octane
260GTX Unleaded Non-Oxygenated 98 Octane
Premium Unleaded 93 Octane
Pumps are available 24 hours a day and payment method is by major credit card only - including but not limited to: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Sunoco credit and cash cards. Cash cards are available at the souvenir booth located next to the paddock food stand. The cash cards will help alleviate the problem associated with repeated credit card use at the pumps and will increase the purchase amount to the amount on the card.

Course Ideally Suited For:

Graduates of The Mid-Ohio School High Performance, Advanced High Performance and Lapping programs
PCA, BMWCCA, Audi and other Car Club Instructors or Experienced Club Track Event participants
Novice Enthusiasts who want to explore The Mid-Ohio School programs
Novice Enthusiasts who want to taste the thrill of high speed lapping in a lead-follow environment in their own car

Driver Eligibility
All "open lapping" drivers must be graduates of The Mid-Ohio School's Lapping Program or present proof of a current SCCA PDX, NASA HPDE or other car club credentials to provide documentation of the completion of an on track course including being signed off by an Instructor to drive solo. All other drivers just need a qualified street car.

I was just talking to a road course instructor tonight of how I would love to go tracking. I have been talking to a sub janitor who has been racing Minis for 15 years all over...from time attacks, courses, and various other scca sanctioned events.

Depending on dates, I would love to go...

This is what they have for schedule on the website.

2010 Schedule
Friday, April 23 - Twilight
Friday, May 14 - Twilight
Wednesday, June 16 - Twilight
Thursday, July 22 - Twilight
Thursday, August 19 - Twilight
Thursday, September 23 - Twilight

This would probably be cool to do, it could help you see if you'd like to take the actual courses there.

Thats awesome man, are you doing the three day, or just one at a time? I have the same goal as you do, just waiting when money isn't so tight.

I'm pretty sure ill be doing this for sure. I'm going to email them to see which date they have the most spots open so maybe if anyone else decides to go, we can go on the same day. I think it would be fun.

I am doing one at a time to see how it goes. I hope that I actually learn something in the Acura course...

I got a e-mail back.

Thank you for your interest in The Mid-Ohio School. The short answer is all of the dates currently have plenty of openings as it is still very early in the season. This is a fairly new program for The Mid-Ohio School and to date we have never had to “limit” or close out a course date for this type of program. We do however, expect this program to increase in attendance as it is a great, inexpensive way to get on the track for those people with a wide variety of experience or lack of experience.

As you can see, this program always runs as a twilight program which means that check in is at 3:30PM and on track sessions run from 5:00PM – Dusk. All participants are guaranteed three 20-minute sessions throughout the evening.

Please let me know if I can answer any further questions for you.

As of now I am looking at Wednesday June 16th as the day I want to do this.

I also email back asking how limted it is if you've never been to a track before and I was told that speeds of up to 100mph will be reached. Which is good enough for me for the first time going to a track.
