Over time, each time I met a Filipino; I try to speak tagalog as hard as I can even though it would come out "Baluktot" but luckily some Filipino's were forgiving and willing to teach me Tagalog. Now...hehehehe...I can speak 4 dialects fluently in Filipino.

Hangat ngayon, Tagalog pa rin and usapan namin sa bahay, kaya alam kong mag Tagalog.
Magandang gabi po.
I came to LA when I was 2. My parents and siblings talked nothing but Tagalog at home. I did not know how to speak English when I entered elementary.
I was in ESL in 1st grade. This is where I learned Spanish (99% of the students in ESL were, you guessed it, Spanish-speaking.) They taught the curriculum with Spanish-speaking students in mind. I would come home saying "Mami, el gato es negro". I got the tsinelas to my a$$ and needless to say my mom pulled my a$$ out of ESL and demanded I be put back in the regular class.
20 years later, here I am, fluent in Tagalog, English, and Spanish (by accident).

^^Bamboo. That's rough. My mom kinda mellowed out after having me, but my other 3 siblings got the real whoopings.
Wooden coat hanger
Walis tambo
Belt
Door
Sabunot
Monggo or bigas on the floor, nakaluhod, with books on outstretched hands for 30 minutes.
You name it.

i wish my parents tought me tagalog when i was younger...but being born in the states i guess english was the right choice. i have cusins in maryland, both brothers, the 8 year old is just like me (english speaking only). his younger 4 year old brother is going into kindergraden only speaking tagalog. which in away makes me mad for some reason

Astig ang nanay mo. Compared sa nanay mo, napaka bait pala ng nanay ko.
