Unique xm antenna placement...for a G

After much contemplation and hesitation I decided to drill a hole in my trunk. I had removed the antenna during my rear deck spoiler installation because I didnt like the way it looked up there
I was diggin the way mercedes has an antenna mounted center on the trunk on some models so I went for it.
I color matched an 05+ oem antenna (picture doesnt look like it because car is very dirty and antenna is waxed/clean)
Hope you guys like it, I know I do! I can see the minimalists out there screaming right now!

PS: I will post better pics (closups and from further away) when I get a chance to give it a wash

Not as unique as you think.

I have had mine on my trunk since I bought the car.

No drilling needed

Well thats still in a different place. I put mine there when i wanted xm before I did this. I did not like how it sat above the spoiler line.
This way its flush to the spoiler line. You cant see it if you are behind me in a car or sedan. When you do see it I think it looks tastefully done because its color matched and I dont see a wire going into the trunk seal and/or having the antenna stick off the edge. In fact from certain angles I think it enhances the look of the car imo.

doesn't the paint hurt your reception?
It's unique but overkill if you ask me.
If you like it and don't mind spending the $$$ that's all good.
It looks good

i doubt the paint will hurt reception. i think it looks good (and unique) on OB and color matched. i highly doubt it would look as sublte on a different color. i give it a thumbs up.

Looks good man. I like it. I hated the big ugly stock antenna that was on the roof of my G so I ripped it off and even cancelled my XM.

Thanks for the compliments guys. As far as the reception, the paint has not seemed to impact it at all.

It is also very inexpensive to do this yourself if you have considered painting your antenna.
I got the Color matched paint from: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

Clean plastic surface on oem antenna with rubbing alcohol.
Spray primer, then sand, 2 coats base, 3 coats clear.
Make sure you keep the coats thin so it doesnt fill in the (((XM)))

Drill a hole in the trunk? Ouch.

My Sirius antenna is mounted at the top of the windshield glass on the inside. Wire runs inside the A-pillar. Works perfectly, and you don't even realize it is there when inside the car because it is so small. I'll post pics one of these days when I get time.
