First Day with the Rebel XT

First Day with the Rebel XT
So I picked up a Canon Rebel XT yesterday on cl and decided to give it a shot. I think the shots came out ok for my first time using this camera, but any constructive criticism is welcome. The quality of the pictures do not look as good since photobucket resizes the pics automatically.
Since the last time I posted those teaser pics, I added the black roof and the Gialla replica grill and the modified stillen form GurgenPB. I also lifted the car a bit since the front and the rear was rubbing too much even with shaved fenders. Yes, I know the middle bar is also sprayed DG. I distinctly told the body shop to leave that middle piece black, but they had to spray it. I guess i'll just spray it myself later.

first off, the car is looking great...i love everything you've done to it.
what ISO were you shooting at?
some of the hotspots are really harsh and distracting, though.
your best pics, in no order, are 1 4 7.
the first pic is a typical angle - but i don't blame you. our cars look great from that angle.
you'll quickly learn that post processing can do a great deal for your photos. a lot of people like judge the quality of a photographer's photos by the amount of post processing that needs to be done to them. just keep in mind that photoshop is a great tool at your disposale.
i assume you were using the kit lens?

not bad for the first time Alex. When you're shooting at night or in a garage try shooting at a lower ISO like 200 or 100, any higher and that's where all the noise and grain comes from. You'll have to leave the shutter open a little longer (need a tripod) but the pictures will come out much better. The car looks great with Vodka's old JLines. Is that the ebay grille on there? you can always dremel out the center bar, it's only used for when they make the mold.

if you want criticism on your pics you should number them .. it's easier for people to refer back to a picture.
I assume you had a tripod for these pics? If you did, you should keep your ISO as low as possible.. I see ISO at 1600, 400 and 800 in these pics.. this is unneccessary with a tripod.. it just adds unwanted noise.. keep it at ISO100 on the XT
The pics are decent.. they still sort of look like snapshots tho as opposed to carefully planned and executed photographs because i can see some distractions (mostly overexposed light reflections).. try doing a search on the internet about the "rule of thirds" and photo composition to take your photos to the next level..
#4 is my favorite.. but i think it might have been a stronger shot if you didn't tilt the camera like that and left it on an even plane.. try to avoid excessive "mad JDM angles" (is what they call it)..
most importanly keep shooting, you'll only get better through practice!

I take it your probably shooting in full automatic. My best recomendation is to mess with it in manual mode and read teh instructions to familiarize yourself with it. I went from a sony cybershot to a XT myself so i know how i its. Looks good over all, i'd say though, mess with exposure times and ISO, you want to keep the ISO as low as possible. If you dont have a tripod invest in one for night shots especially, mess with different apature settings, the higher the apature the more focal range your going to have and the more detail you'll see, the lower the apature the smaller the focal range. experiment alot but for a first time shoot its good man, keep it up.

get a tripod...
look into the IS lenses (if you cant, dont want to use tripod)
pictures look ok (same as mine)
I purchased an XT a year or more ago...
the consensus is pictures will look better with a snap and shoot camera vs the XT... however if your skilled and adjust the XT they will surpass the snap and shoot cameras. myself I still havent spent any time on the camera, what a waste... but thats how it is sometimes.
I'll try to find some links that will help you set up the options !
